Music and podcast apps on my phone will send track title and time information to my Sony car stereo over Bluetooth, but Plexamp doesn’t send this metadata. Is it supposed to or are my expectations incorrect?
I don’t know if it matters but I saw this when playing downloaded Plexamp radio station mixes. Mobile data is crazy expensive so I never stream.
hmm, i’m not sure what else we should be doing to get it to show it shouldn’t matter if it’s downloaded or not, if it shows up on your phone’s home screen / notification (not sure what phone you’re using), it should show up on the car.
Well here is the weird thing, when I took a second trip today, it started working. I backed up to the beginning of the downloaded play list in case there was some per-file difference, but nope, everything worked correctly.
“Have you tried turning it off and on again” pays off one more time!
If you can think of any other tests I can do with some tracks that definitely displayed the problem once, I’m happy to try.
If that’s the case, I’d blame the car if nothing else. I still don’t know if we’re talking Android or iOS here, but check to make sure it’s playing on the home screen, and make sure you don’t have any battery optimization on (for Android).
Same in my usecase: Plexamp on my iPhone, wired connection to the car.
Downloaded music plays well on my iPhone, but coverart is missing using carplay. I can use shuffleplay on my car only because tracklist is missing too.
My workarround is to start music playback on my iPhone to play in my car.
Some weeks ago everyrhing was fine. Tried it with two different cars now — but Carplay seems to be broken with Plexamp.
I can provide you with photos / screenshots of that situation
Carplay? Cover art? Fancy, haha. I am using a 10+ year old stereo in a 23 year old car.
In researching my issue I did see a lot of reports like yours though, in various modern cars. The same root cause seems reasonable, but obviously it is not a problem for most people.
I never used Plexamp in the car until just the other day, so I cannot say if the intermittent Bluetooth metadata issue I saw existed in previous builds, though.
Sorry for hijacking this discussion. I thought it would be in general about the incorrect transfer of metadata for music downloaded to the smartphone. If it makes sense, I have no objection to my post being moved to a more appropriate place
This is what I experience when using Carolay. On the device itself everything is fine, when using it via Carplay a lot of info falls by the wayside.
The selected music is the download of an album by Dominik Eulberg called “Avichrome”.
This is how it looks on the iPhone. First all downloaded albums in the overview. Then I select Dominik Eulberg and see all tracks of the album. I select one (“Purpurreiher”)
The same under Carplay: First the overview of downloads, then the album of Dominik Eulberg (Without listing the tracks, only Shuffle Play is possible), then the same track selected (No Album Cover)
That’s weird, I definitely don’t see the same thing over here. Is this the case with all downloaded albums? Can you post Plexamp logs after browsing into the downloaded album with CarPlay?
I definetely will do.
Our car was crashed totally while parking (nobody was harmed) so I cannot check out logs or if other albums are affected, too. It will take one or two weeks to get a replacement… Hard times: Last six weeks we were offline — no internet at all (lucky me, that I am not on the Roon way of music listening!)
But as I said before: Everyone is healthy, that is all that matters
