Plexamp data not synced on car display using Bluetooth

Server Version#: latest production
Player Version#:

I have been using Plexamp in my car for while now and noticed odd behavior since a couple of releases ago. Older car with bluetooth and no Android Auto. When playing a playlist on Plexamp, the display on the car screen is out of sync with the artist/title/track of the song. The car typically displays next song/artist, while my phone displays the current song. Track number is always stuck on 32 or 31. In the past, the artist/title displayed on the car screen was the correct song, and the track was whatever the track number is of the title in its album. Anyone have ideas of what is going on?

I’ve seen this same issue when connected to Bluetooth in my wife’s 2014 Prius. The display on the car’s screen will show the upcoming track rather than the current one. I didn’t make much of it, figuring it was an issue with the car’s software rather than with Plexamp, but thought I’d mention it since someone else is seeing it too

Hopefully @elan will see this and comment. He is very responsive from what I can see.

We’ve fixed the max number being 31/32 in the next release. In terms of the other stuff, generally what’s displayed in the notification should be exactly what shows up on the car display. Android Auto is known for having bugs in this area, and I’ve heard a few similar things with Bluetooth. It’s always possible it’s our bug, but there’s really not a lot of control we have—we just set media session details and the OS takes care of the rest.

Hi @elan. I was able to construct a test scenario that presented the sync issue.

  1. Start a new playlist in the car with shuffle.
  2. No sync with car display (bluetooth screen, not Android Auto) until 3rd song.
  3. Played and skipped through playlist until I hit 31 tracks played.
  4. Skipped to next track (32). Bluetooth on car showed what would be track 33. But it played track 32.
  5. All subsequent tracks show track 32 in display, and always the next song in playlist, not the current song being played.

Hope this helps. I do not think it is a bluetooth communication issue. It may be a data issue in Plexamp.

thanks for the extra data, much appreciated!

A couple more observations:

  1. As I mentioned in my last post, when I start Plexamp and begin playing from where I left off, it takes two songs before it begins to display the song name and artist. I happened to try this on a newer model car today and it presented the same behavior.

  2. Now, the album is never displayed. It reads “No Data”… Although this is a play list, I would expect the Album name for the track to be displayed.

  3. Sometimes the album cover shown on the car display and sometimes it is not. All the tracks in my library have album covers, so not sure why this is happening.

I looks like there is an issue with the Plexamp data presentation on BT during playback. It may be more than a simple synchronization problem.

My playlists are all smart playlists, randomly sorted and I always use shuffle. I also have between 500 and 3000 tracks per playlist, depending on filtering criteria used.
