Plexamp Feature Request - Max sample rate setting

As a Plexamp user I would like to set a maximum sample rate to match my DAC’s limitation.

My DAC can handle up to a 48kHz sample rate. Some albums in my music library have a higher sample rate.

At this moment in Plexamp I can choose to not use the strict sample rate option so that the sample rate does not change to 96k after I’ve played a track on 44.1k. It stays at 44.1k.

To my knowledge it would be even better if it would be possible to configure a maximum sample rate to be used. Like setting the max sample rate to 48k. In that case I would expect 96k and 192k tracks to be played on 48k. And a 88.2k track to be played at 44.1k.

I think that this would improve the flexibility as well as the sound quality taking into account the limitations of the DAC.

Greetings from a happy Plexamp user.

I’ve played with Plexamp’s “Sample Rate Matching”, and it seems to work great. It switches between 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz depending on the file I’m playing.

Additionally, it will switch to 96 kHz or 192 kHz if I’m playing a file that’s extremely high quality (for no reason, other than the fact that that’s the file I have).

I have a weird problem with this as one of the receivers I use to play audio takes an optical connection, and will play the bit perfect audio completely fine, but doing any sample rate above 48 kHz will stop my receiver from being able to upmix the stereo audio to 5.1.

I’ll admit I don’t hear a difference with sample rate matching enabled versus it being disabled, but the only way for this feature to be useful to myself is to force it to downsample anything above 48 kHz.

The feature request is to add an option that would set a maximum sample rate for sample rate matching. Anything at or below that maximum will output the audio perfectly, but anything above that maximum should be downsampled.
