Plexamp: Featured or todays album

Just got a feature I´d like to see. “Featured” or “todays” album would be a great way to pick up and listen to music long forgotten in library. Maybe even with an option to choose genre or style.

And how would this album be selected?

If you just want a random album be selected, do this:

  • open the web app
  • go into your music library
  • switch the view mode to Albums
  • set the sorting to Randomly
  • add some arbitrary filter, like Genre or decade or something
  • limit the number of results to 1
  • Save that filter as a smart collection and name it “Album of the Day”.

Publish this collection to the home page https://support.plex.tv/articles/publishing-collections/

I see. No, I thought it would be nice to have a random album based on number of plays. So if an album was never played, it would have a greater chance of being picked.

It could be displayed on top over “newly added music” or maybe before stations. As a single album, or a row of a number of albums.

I know you can pick random albums, but it would be a quicker way for some people to find “old” music anew.

There are filters for that as well.

Plus, Plexamp has already Deep Cuts Radio, which is a great way to dig up hidden gems.

Oh thanks a lot, Otto.

Well, I need to explore Plexamp more I guess. It´s just sometimes I have like 30 seconds to pick a new album before my hands “are tied” and I can’t touch my phone the next hour.

Just remembered an old app I used with that “today’s album” feature, and I really liked it.
