[PlexAmp] [Feedback] First thoughts

Up until the 3.x release of the Windows Store App I was using WinAmp for my music as the previous Plex options were simply not fit. WinAmp was everything I needed it to be- the only thing I wanted for perfection was a Plex plugin so I didn’t have to worry about maintaining two libraries and my Plex library is already nicely sorted with artwork and the like. The UWP made some serious strides in being a good desktop music client but the less said about that these days the better. PMP gets released, offering the Web client in a desktop window, addressable with media keys, all was good. Still never felt native though, and lacked gapless playback among other things.

Then you guys go and pull this out of the blue! WOW! I got the email today, have just had the chance to install it, and just wow! This is it! This is how my music on my desktop should be played!

OK Enough of that.

  • It’s mostly functional for me.
  • The sizes are fine, although I find anything less than “Roo” to be a bit tiny for my liking.
  • The visualisations are great!
  • The navigation: I was unsure when you said there was no real browsing, just a search- but you know what, it works!
  • Loving the CTRL+SHIFT+SPACE global- so handy to just have instant music search on-hand!
  • The little spectrum on the now playing track is real!!! I’ve wanted that tiny thing for so long- loved the idea of using a little spectrum analyzer icon to show now playing, and always wanted it to be live rather than a little animated image. The little things!
  • The subtle fade-outs on pause are brilliant. The crossfade is great. The gapless playback- oh man! I haven’t enjoyed listening to Pros & Cons of Hitchhiking quite that much since I lost the vinyl.
  • We need some sort of PQ management. Re-order, add to queue, remove from queue, clear queue, save to playlist.
  • Seems to have hiccups when I pause then try to resume playback (using keyboard media keys). Not really pushed into it so may be an anomaly.
  • I know you’re going for small and confined, but it would be nice to be able to have a persistent PQ to the side (akin to WinAmp’s Playlist window).
  • Having everything managed through the systray context menu seems a bit odd- any chance of accessing that same menu with a right-click on the program window itself? Would save me having to mouse over to the corner of my primary monitor to change vis when the program window is top-right of monitor 2. Specific use-case I’m sure, but systray is a bit out of the way for sole access to program options.
  • Given that they’re hidden for the most part anyway- any chance of making the playback control buttons a bit bigger. Would make using the actual UI easier when not using keyboard media keys.

Once again- WOW guys! Merry Christmas!!!

Crushed it. I loved WinAmp back in the day. This filled the void.
I found getting to the settings a bit wonky, not sure why it is not a simple right-click function. Other than that, awesome job.

You rock, comments like this make it all worthwhile

Pro tip: you’ve probably already discovered this, but you can click on headers (like RECENTLY ADDED) for full infinite scrolling lists. Not quite browsing, but close!

Thanks for noticing

Coming for sure.

Agreed, others have mentioned this as well.

Noted!

Once again- WOW guys! Merry Christmas!!!

You are very welcome, so happy you’re enjoying it!
