Just got a new sound system and looking for ways to stream high quality audio to my stereo receiver. The Plex app for Fire TV crashes when I play music for a while unfortunately, and also seems to be locked at 16bit/48khz even though my source FLAC files are higher resolution than that.
Please add Plexamp to Fire TV so I can play music!
Hook a RaspberryPI up to your audio system with Linux installed on it and then install Plexamp on to that.
Afterwards you can use your phone to remotely control it.
While that sounds like a clever idea, I neither have a RaspberryPi nor any Linux skills and don’t have any desire to fuss about with trying to make a Linux hacky workaround.
Not trying to dismiss your idea, it’s certainly valid for those who want to tinker. I just want an app that I can install from an app store with 1 or 2 clicks and have everything ‘just work’ within a few minutes. I’d wager a guess your solution would take me 8hrs or more to get setup and god forbid it breaks and I have to troubleshoot on a Linux platform.
Plus, my girlfriend needs to be able to use it, and she really likes the user experience from the Fire TV Plex app with all the album art and such.
There’s an existing feature suggestion to allow Plexamp to run on an Android TV client. I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to avoid distracting/dispersing votes.

Thanks for the heads up. I see the thread you linked is specifically for nvidia Shield, are all ‘android tv’ clients regarded as the same even if they are Fire TV, Shield, or other brands/platforms?
I voted on that one too, but I’m thinking the titles and content of these threads may be confusing or generating low traffic because they’re not specific. I bet we’d have a lot of Amazon Fire TV users chime in if the thread was given traction. Just some thoughts.

Caveat: Different platforms have different limitations put in place by the manufacturer. For example, when streaming movies, the Nvidia Shield will passthrough TrueHD audio. Amazon devices lack TrueHD support, so the audio is transcoded by Plex Media Server to another format.
