Not sure what you mean by “… no reason why it shouldnt work”? It can functionally change the volume, but with risk.
I dont realy care about bit perfect so a’soft’ volume is better than a physical volume pot IMO.
But the chances of someone playing music at full volume are really high and that’s a risk that could cost me my speakers. When you open the cast dialog the volume is default set to full.
Is there anyway to control it… like have a setting for it to open at zero?
The rotary encoder I have on my Pi (that previously worked) kept it’s volume untill the pi was rebooted, then it set to zero so it was always safe. It was also software configurable.
The Pi with DAC HAT is such a sweet combo but if I cant get it to work, my only option is to buy another separate DAC with volume control.
IMO it’s also a lot harder to accidentally turn a volume knob to full than to accidentally swipe a touch controll to full. Also someone could do this remotely, while not in the room and deafen someone.
Reading tmy above post sounds like I’m grumpy with you. I’m not. I have great appreciation for what you’ve done with plexamp headless. And I realize my use case is probably like those who want more than 24 hours of download…
