Plexamp how does silence skipping button work?

Trying to understand if this is a bug or how it’s supposed to work.

When playing my audiobooks, I click the double arrow symbol for silence skipping. Normally playback stays at 1.0x and doesn’t change anything.

If I manually adjust the playback speed slider with this button enabled though, this seems to trigger it to start working correctly. I see playback speed jump up and down by itself as silences are skipped. Sometimes doing this still nothing happens though.

This feature is really fantastic when working. How do I make it work consistently?

If it’s not speeding anything up, generally because there’s not enough silence for it to detect. Like if there’s some background noise or music or something like that.

Thanks, this makes sense. Listening back, I think some of my audiobooks do have a slight hiss which I thought was silence. Have noticed the audiobooks it does work for I still have to move the playback speed slider sometimes to trigger it to work.

Two follow up questions:

  • Does the silence skipping button override your playback speed slider? Or can they work together?
  • Can you set a default playback speed for the Plexamp app in general?

They work together, you can speed up and then eliminate silence to make even faster.

Not currently, no.
