Plexamp just sits there when I try to play

I have the exact same problem on Win7 with server also on Win7.
I think you goofed with MPD.

I think you goofed with MPD.

That may be the case, but the log snippet above doesn’t show that

I don’t actually have a Windows 7 machine to test with…

Plexamp updated itself tonight to 1.0.1 (still copyright 2017, but i’ve definitely checked for updates prior to this in 2018.)

Playback is still broken; the update isn’t thought to have fixed this on Mac, ya?

Got logs so we might see what’s going on?

MPD is seg-faulting; crash dump attached.

(Huh - your forum software doesn’t allow a “.crash” file to be attached.)

@quarkdoll ~ hmm, not much to go on there; anything special or interesting about your audio hardware? If you feel like spelunking it with me, I can pass you a debug binary, just PM me.

I use an RME Babyface Pro for an audio interface. Will PM you - thanks.

on 1.0.1, macbook pro 2016 on 10.12.6, and similar to v1.0.0, i get no playback on any audio device apart from the built-in speakers. i’ve tried with a few different audio devices, including Babyface Pro like the previous poster. PlexAmp will only play back audio if i set the system output to built-in and restart my computer. Then the app will run and play my library, but ONLY on the built-in speakers, no matter what i set my system audio to output from.

To clarify, the app should use whatever audio interface is set as the default at the time of starting. (We’ll obviously improve on this.)

That would be fine. Other apps that use the system audio (Plex-web on Chrome, for instance) will follow whatever output device is set in sound preferences, and will even switch mid-stream. Even better would be the ability to choose audio device from within PlexAmp itself. Currently, PlexAmp will not play at all if I start it with a 3rd party device selected as default/system audio. I can only ever get it to play from the built-in speakers on my MacBook Pro.

Ah, gotcha, that is not good. We’ll look into it.

Can confirm sounjaerk’s observation more or less - if i choose the System Preferences default audio to be internal speakers, then i can get Plexamp to play audio. (I don’t need to reboot)

I had this same issue, my logs showed a different error though. It was working but i accidentally pulled the power cord to my laptop (no battery) and powered off my laptop. Needless to say plexamp wasn’t working afterword. I attempted to uninstall and reinstall to no avail. Also for those unaware of the LOGS LOCATION, they are located in the below mentioned folder/dir.

WHAT DID fix my issue was deleting the plexamp folder AFTER performing an uninstall:
C:\Users\sekthree\AppData\Local\Plexamp
Reinstalled, Logged in, BOOM now working again!

Just another triage step for those having issues.
Windows 10(64) : plexamp1.0.0.0 : PMS1.8.4.4249

YES @sekthree!! I had a power failure this morning while Plexamp was playing (windows 10). After that…it didn’t work. Rebooted, logged out, logged in, uninstalled, reinstalled…all in different order…all failed. I followed your instructions and I’m back in business. I love Plexamp and would have been bummed if I couldn’t use it anymore. Thanks for sharing your solution!!!

Hi Elan -

Removing these lines:

C:\Android\android-sdk\ ools
C:\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools

from my temp variable fixed the issue! Thanks!

Mine is doing the same thing. Can you be more specific about how you did this?

I don’t know if you got this fixed (hopefully so), but if not and you are on Windows 10, these are steps that I used:

  1. find Advanced System Settings (right click “This PC” and select properties)
  2. find “Advanced” tab on pop-up and click “Environment Variables…” located at the bottom of the window
  3. find “TEMP” and remove the offending parameters (i.e. - the ones that I had were listed above)

Hope this helps!

Issue with playback on 3rd party audio device seems fixed on v1.0.2. Thanks!

I’m also unable to play anything. I am able to see the library and browse it but it just hangs while trying to play without displaying any image (album art for example).
I am not in the same network as the server. Any ideeas?
Thanks

The logs indicate that the underlying MPD player is crashing or is unable to start. Make sure you have v1.0.2 and if that still doesn’t work, see if you can give us more details about your system.

Hi Elan.

I am running v1.0.2 on a RHEL 7.4.

Hmm… not sure if that’s on the list of systems which the AppImage supports, so that might be the issue?

It should as it supports Red Hat.
I also use soundcloud player that is also a appimage and it works.
