This looks like a dependency error, but that’s impossible right, appimages bundle all their dependencies don’t they?

Additional info:

  • Plexamp worked perfectly until today
  • The only change I can think of since my last use is i updated my packages and removed some python2 packages.

Things I have tried:

  • Rebooting
  • Re-downloading the plexamp appimage
  • Deleting my config folder

Other Qt programs run fine, so I don’t think it’s the plugin. Examples:

[ . . .@ . . . ~]$ manjaro-settings-manager
qt5ct: using qt5ct plugin

or

[. . . @ . . .  ~]$ /home/ . . . /Applications/Cool-Retro-Term-1.1.1-x86_64_546b0487c7e0f9b9eb7b61ed567ed6b5.AppImage
qt5ct: using qt5ct plugin
default KB_LAYOUT_DIR:  "/tmp/.mount_Cool-RywqxsI/usr/qml/QMLTermWidget/kb-layouts"
QObject::connect: No such slot Konsole::TerminalDisplay_QML_157::close()
loadAllColorSchemes
Both point size and pixel size set. Using pixel size.

run fine.

I do think its an issue with one of the Manjaro upgrades that have occurred in the last few days (it started with me on the 14th), but I don’t know which one:

and there’s no way I’m rolling back everything to try. I did, however, roll back both pango and harfbuzz, twice, to no avail (even after reboot):

That would coincide with when I upgraded, but I’m on Arch, could it really be due to a package upgrade? Could be that all appimages are broken, I don’t have any other

Update: I’ve tried a random AppImage (kdenlive) and it did not crash so it’s not an AppImage problem!

I tried the Cool-Retro-Term AppImage and it opened fine.

Here’s my own upgrade from the 12th, to see if we can cross-reference to find the offending package:

Manjaro is Arch-based, so we’re probably having the same problem. Pango is listing a that one of the newer revisions (1.44.5) fixes a crash, so it might be that, but Manjaro doesn’t have that release yet (at least not conveniently).

Overview of changes in 1.44.5
=============================
- Revert a broken change (causing crashes on OS X)

Overview of changes in 1.44.4
=============================
- Add an insert-hyphens attribute
- Reinstate the return type of pango_fc_font_lock_face
- Fix a problem with ellipses getting the wrong font
- fc: Improve filtering by font format
- Re-add PangoFcFont to public headers
- Install PangoFc and PangoOT introspection files
- Fix ink rectangles to have positive height
- Fix mark positioning
- Switch to using harfbuzz for metrics

Overview of changes in 1.44.3
=============================
- Install pango-ot headers
- Make subpixel positioning optional
- fc: Ignore fonts with unsupported formats

Overview of changes in 1.44.2
=============================
- Disable ligatures when letterspacing
- Set design coords on hb_font_t
- Expose more font options in pango-view
- OS X: Make 'system-ui' font work
- Keep deprecated pango-fc apis in headers
- Make hex boxes work, always
- introspection: Various build fixes
- introspection: Add PangoPT, PangoFT2 namespaces
- layout: Make the new line-spacing opt-in

However, downgrading it alone also didn’t fix it.

I have 1:1.44.5-1 unfortunately so that’s not it. I can’t think of any package an AppImage could depend on anyway :I

I see you upgraded mpv but that’s also not it, that mpv update was rolled out the 6th of August on Arch and I most definitely have had it for a while and used plexamp with that version.

Here’s what we have in common, based on what you installed the 12th, and I installed the 14th:

bison (3.3.2-1 -> 3.4-1)
libevent (2.1.10-1 -> 2.1.11-1)
libinput (1.13.4-1 -> 1.14.0-1)
libnghttp2 (1.36.0-1 -> 1.39.1-1)
man-db (2.8.5-2 -> 2.8.6.1-1)
man-pages (5.01-1 -> 5.02-1)
python-packaging (19.0-1 -> 19.1-2)
zstd (1.4.1-1 -> 1.4.2-1)

I had a pretty good candidate: libnghttp2, it’s an update by a few minor versions for both of us and a pretty low-level lib but that’s not it, I just downgraded it and it’s still broken >:c

I have now downgraded all of these, including the man packages. That’s not it…

Same. I was just about to reboot, and check again.

Reboot also didn’t do anything.

There was one extra package you missed because you considered uprade versions, ffmpeg, but downgrading it still didn’t work…

Yeah, there’s not much more I can think of. Another person (with a completely different program) had a strikingly similar error HERE, but he just seems to have messed with electron (which you have, but I don’t), and pango.

Ok so!

I have downgraded al my packages back to the first of august, using the method described here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Arch_Linux_Archive#How_to_restore_all_packages_to_a_specific_date

And plexamp now boots! Now all I need to do is to re-upgrade my packages one by one to figure out which one was broken. I will report back with findings.

Thank you! I just rolled back the kernel to see if that was it, but you really stepped up the troubleshooting. :smiley:
