As I listen Doom Gothic music and plex seems to use a very poor lyrics source, that doesn’t fetch any lyric song for the music I listen… I tried with “Pain it Black” from the Rolling Stones, with that works. I really expected the lyrics engine to be improved…
I know former version didn’t let browse the library, another feature I didn’t like it, because the normal would be to let the users to see all their discs to pick one. Plex way forces moods or listen randomly.
Thank you for the workaround!! I will use a lot if I finally opt for using plexamp. Devs could put an “All Artist” link on the Home, as they can be browseable. But we all know plex devs are not open to suggestions…
Running Linux Mint (latest stable release). I downloaded this today (directly), put it in /opt/Plex/PlexAmp, marked it as executable and ran it from the terminal. This is what I got. I really like the Android version of this, but this version seems to be a bit, umm, lacking. This, is, of course, only a partial dump of the output, but it shows the start of it.
[Edit: The @motoaxe command line parameter fix doesn’t work for me…]
Is it really that hard to turn this AppImage thing into a DEB file?
This has nothing to do with plexamp. The availability of lyrics is the same in all types of Plex clients.
If you care deeply for lyrics and LyricFind (Plex’s legally licensed source for lyrics) cannot deliver them in your geographic area, I recommend adding them beside your audio files in .txt or .lrc “side car” files.
Well, while I agree is no exclusively a plexamp limitation, is somehow related to plexamp, as the user suffers the poor quality of the lyrics engine (I didn’t try all of my thousand songs, but it failed on the 100% I listen so far, it just worked with mi wife’s library, who likes commercial best known music).
I don’t think is related to my geographical area as 1) I live in Europe, not in Iran or North Korea, 2) I can see the most of the lyrics from my wife’s library.
I didn’t know about side loading lyrics files, and yet it is helpful and interesting, I wonder why plex isn’t using any open-licensed lyrics library to make their paid clients’ life easier. For me is easier to just pop up Cantata, and let it fetch the lyrics. It fetches most of the lyrics of the music I listen, leaving in blank just the most underground, experimental, unknown and indie metal bands. And cantata is not the only software which fetch lyrics just the way is expected, on the Linux desktop, I used several through the years, and most of them do the work almost perfect. Perhaps some folks at plex could try to implement some lyric’s engine with an open license, just like they do obtaining metadata for videos. I put it here some search engines used by cantata.
It is. Lyrics are just under copyright laws as any other media. If you want to disribute them legally, you’ll have to negotiate with the party who has the copyright for the geographic region. This can differ from country to country, and not just in the third world. In fact, it is worse in the first world because you have to deal with the historically-grown thicket of rights explorers and mediators, which also are usually separate by country – sometimes even separate by type of music and/or record label/publishing company.
The fact that there are myriads of websites where you can easily copy lyrics from, doesn’t necessarily mean these websites are operating legally. Since Plex is a legally run business, it has to abide by the rules.
But that is as far as I’m willing to go into this topic.
I don’t want to go deeper either because we’re entering offtopic. Just saying I don’t really think the issue is on my side, but on the lyric’s engine, because I can use my VPN to avoid georestrictions (In fact, I already did it on the past). If only that engine has a catalog to browse, it would clear the things up.
Note: I just tried the latest version (3.0.2) and got the same error.

at the end I have no open app. I have tried --no-sandbaox, and the libcrypto fix and the disablegpu, all with no effect on the output and no app ever opens.
This is a fresh install of linux and is fully up to date. the /home partition came from an older version of linux that has PlexAmp working just fine. Does the app store some files that I need to clean out?
You have a different error too, with the xdg-mime thing at the top. I just posted what worked for me in the absence of an official fix from people who actually developed this. Use the clues provided by the output and google and see what you can come up with.
No it’s the exact same when using the flag provided. I was reporting back on the other comment I made about “no joy”; just after your suggestion.
Fact is, it’s no bueno.
EDIT: Just ran ./Plexamp-3.0.2.AppImage --disable-seccomp-filter-sandbox after an update from Solus today, rebooted and it’s working. I like being wrong in this case.
