Plexamp, no "smart fades" gapless playback, or anything (SOLVED)

Hey All,

I downloaded Plexamp thinking it would be a great upgrade to Plex, even bought a Plex pass and their website clearly states “smart fades” and gapless playback support, Am I missing something. I tried this on an android tablet, as well as an iphone.

I come from the days of radio (DJ for 12 years on commercial radio) and so I have grown accustomed to “fades and mixes” but this doesnt seem to have it. Indeed I see an option for it, and they blatantly advertised it as a “feature” on their flashy website, even when they try to get you to buy “tidal” its mentioned there as well.

All of my local music on my plex server is from “CDS or Media” that were made for the radio, meaning all extra silence is trimmed, edited for content , all that good stuff. I am using MP3 128 kb in case you need that info?

Example Video

Settings > Playback > Sweet Fades should do the trick.

MP3 @ 128 kbps should work just fine – though it seems a bit… counter-intuitive to the overall ambition

I agree lots of people are in this for a “sonic” experience, however I am just in it for the GUI and handling of the library, the setting you refer to does nothing on either IOS, or Android, I have not tried with the desktop windows version yet

Have you enabled the loudness analysis for your music library on your Plex Media Server?
Settings > [Server Name] > Library > Analyze audio tracks for loudness

This is a prerequisite for features like sweet fades – processing your library might take a few minutes per library (in case this is a rather new setup with a huge library, this might take a moment.

Hey Tom

Ill try that, I just confirmed the feature doesnt work on Windows Desktop either. Let me peek at the server!

You need loudness analysis enabled and performed, which is visible by the “waveform” displays in the player. If they’re missing, you’ll be missing quite a bit—loudness leveling, sweet fades, and the waveforms.

here?

Hey Elan, this is a great player, I am just trying to make sure its setup right!

That’s the option.
If it was already set and hasn’t yet finished you might be able to manually trigger it by performing the Analyze action from the library (or an album’s) context menu.

Ok I am back, I did make a very short library, probably about 18 songs, I also double checked that setting, I have not been able to get a song to “sweet fade” or “gapless” and yes I understand the differences, so far for me anyways the “sweet fades” is not very sweet at all.

standing by to see what you guys suggest next

Maybe for verification… when you play a song from that library in Plexamp… does the “Now Playing” screen show the waveform or a plain line for the playback progress? As elan pointed out… if you see a flat line, the loudness analysis didn’t happen or failed for some reason.

Package up the server logs and let us have a look.

Here you go, thanks again

Ok I added a couple other songs besides the def leppard test album, I can now see the “waveform” your refering to in some of the tracks, not the original 16, but the 4 I just added show waveforms, however that being said there is no “sweet” or otherwise fades in any of the tracks,

Two other things

sometimes the song keeps playing and there is no audio coming out of the speaker, you can see the waveform progressing but no audio is present, major buggy there, also my friend has a server setup and he can see the “Waveforms” on all his audio tracks, but also he doesnt get any fades, this software kind of acts like a glorified cd player of yesteryear, it has the 4 seconds of silence between tracks which was very common back then. I have included two videos, one showing what I am looking to achieve, the other showing what is currently happening with the Plexamp!

The software you see is a client side software with a local library requiring no “special help” to create the powerful mixes it does all the time without fail

If I could have the GUI of plexamp with that softwares fades, without being highly dependent on a “Server” that would be the best of both worlds

thanks guys

Are you saying I am not understanding PlexAmp?

True gapless playback not working?

Huge thread here on gapless playback and sweet fades… Might get some helpful info. Can’t seem to find the how to posts from of old…

The developer of this app is actually looking at my logs, I feel that is more then enough, I have setup everything correctly, I am sure he will see the issue with the app and tell me how to correct it soon!

BTW I read that entire thread last night before even making my own, All I could decipher was a bunch of people whining to Elan about what they “had to have”, I am just trying to make sure the app is working properly and I set it up properly, I am not begging him for anything, also that thread couldnt make up their mind whether the feature actually worked or not ,so I will defer to Elan on this one I think!
