Plexamp - server behind reverse proxy

Hi there,
I’ve just upgraded to a plex pass after years of using plex so that I could use the sync feature as well as premium music libraries, and so far am loving it. But have run into an issue with plexamp.

On my home network (where my server is) plexamp works well, but away from home it seems to find the server (it’s listed as a source in the context menu) but doesn’t find any content - the plexamp window remains empty. I suspect this is due to my server being behind a reverse proxy, but other apps don’t seem to mind. For instance, I can play music through the windows 10 app when away from home with no issue. And I never have issues accessing my home server via web browser through my custom domain name.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for your support!

Generally speaking, reverse proxies should work (and we’ve fixed a few bugs around them), but it’s hard to know what’s happening without a look at the logs. If you post (or have a look) in Application.log, it’ll tell you what URLs it’s using to try to hit your server, and that might provide a clue.

Out of curiosity, why are you using a reverse proxy?

Hi Elan,

I use a reverse proxy to be able to access several different services on my home server remotely via different subdomians of my main domain, e.g. plex.mydomain.ca, serverstats.mydomain.ca. It took some fiddling with config files, but things have been working smoothly for some time.

Again, things are fine from my home network, but I have trouble from away. Here’s what I think is the relevant part of the log file:

I think the important bit here is the line I’ve put the asterisks in front of - it sounds like plexamp can connect to my server, but for some reason doesn’t think it’s the right one. I don’t really know what it’s looking for though.

I’ve attached two pictures showing what I get when I launch the app away from home - it seems as though plexaxmp can see my server, but can’t load any music from it.

I think my reverse proxy is working fine - I can go to plex.mydomain.ca and listen to music via the web interface as well as listen via the windows 10 app. It’s just plexamp that seems to be having trouble. Thanks for your help!
