Plexamp shouldn't reset repeat one track on track change

Currently the “repeat one track” behaviour on plexamp is bizarre: it resets after any playback change, i.e. switch to next track from queue or picking a new track from library.

There is no way at the moment in plexamp to play tracks on repeat until manually switched. You have to set “repeat one track” for each track manually which is extremely frustrating.

There are multiple topics on this forum with this specific request over the years, none answered. The current behaviour renders the option unusable in many real world use cases. I take it to be highly unlikely for users to play queues, then enable “repeat one track” for a while and then again to just go on playing the queue.

Please, fix it, it ruins plexamp for me and many other users reporting this issue at least since 2021

P.s. this behaviour is inconsistent with the main plex web app, so I would argue it’s a bug.

P.p.s. I found this reply:

and I tested a few:

  • main Plex app keeps “repeat once” enabled between tracks
  • most players for music lovers keep it (i.e. foobar)
  • apple and youtube music keep it
  • Spotify, Tidal and Deezer do not keep

So I don’t believe it’s that universal, it’s inconsistent (to the worse) with the main Plex app and it’s not consistent with at least two major streaming players. An option to change that behaviour would be an ideal solutions for such an amazingly configurable app targeted to advanced music listeners who prefer it to play their curated libraries and not some random mess from spotify.

I’m not sure I’d call it “bizarre”; we followed what 3 major music platforms do. Ideally we’d add an option for it at some point because some people clearly prefer it to act differently.

Well, you haven’t followed it in the main plex app though.

Yes, an option would be ideal. That’s how it’s solved in a plexamp alternative that I will probably use for now, as I’m trying to move all my music listening to plex but this behaviour won’t work for me at all.

I will explain my thinking behind “bizarre”. That option is made for users who play music as streaming radio, stumble upon a track they liked and want to repeat it a few times and then go on with their random stream. They don’t usually want to repeat once except for some rare cases. I don’t think that’s a preferred behaviour for people who listen to their carefully curated libraries, i.e. with plex or foobar.

That’s not my domain.

That is my typical use case for repeat-one when listening to library content. Everyone is different.
