I’ve had an issue with Plexamp in that it really doesn’t seem to shuffle my play list on my phone when the ‘shuffle’ button is highlighted. I’ll sniffing around the forum I see that from Settings | Library if I turn off Enable smart shuffle this should give me a way more random play back with Plexamp on my phone.
By turning off smart shuffle on my Plex server via the web interface, how does this actually cause the previously downloaded music on my phone to shuffle better?
AFAIK, offline stuff isn’t affected by the smart shuffle feature, as offline stuff isn’t actually a server-generated play queue.
Disabling Smart Shuffle will result in more random, but less shuffled play queues. True random doesn’t actually feel random. Smart Shuffle has some magic to prevent back to back artists, favours the best stuff (highly rated or popular), and removes “low quality” items like outros, or low rated tracks.
What is other peoples thoughts on Plexamp shuffling?
I find on my phone (Plex 3XL) Plexamp pretty much plays the same songs, in the same order, on my play list every time I start it. You would think some type of random number generator would pick the songs and then keep track so that songs are played only once.
Offline items, about 85 tracks that I have downloaded to my Android phone. Whenever I start the playlist it seem like I’m always getting the songs in the same order.
That doesn’t make a lot of sense It seems like you are, or you are? If you play multiple times in a row, do you get the same track starting (and following in the queue)?
@elan I sat down and systematically when through my playlist with no shuffle and then a couple different times with shuffle turned on. Things did appear to wok OK in that shuffle did seem to mix things up pretty well.
Maybe between being color blind and messing with my phone while mountain biking I’m not getting the shuffle button enabled. I’ll try to pay closer attention in the future.
Another question… what are the chances of getting Sonic functionality on the TrueNAS platform? I’d really like to turn this on, but don’t want to move my Plex server to another machine.
I’ll keep my fingers cross. I read somewhere that the neural network libraries used in Sonic were not available for FreeBSD (TruNAS base s/w) so it wasn’t going to happen.
Probably be a pain, but I guess I could move all my music over to my Synology 918+ since Sonic runs on the Synology box.
