Not sure about this.
Do the desktop and the android Plexamp apps sync what it is playing?
I mean, if I listen to Plexamp on android and then I move to Plexamp on desktop, can I continue listening from where I left on android?
Not really. Play queues are owned by each device.
What’s the real scenario here? Are you looking to pick up at the same time offset, generally continue a playlist, or something else?
I would like this too - I think the idea is to pickup a music playlist where you left off from on the other device. For example, I start a playlist on random of ~1800 songs on my computer at work, and then I get in the car to drive home. I want to be able to pick up the playlist on my phone when I get in my car in the exact spot I left off on my computer.
I was thinking more of a general sync of the position of playing playlist (at the level of song, more than time offset, but can be both).
I believe most streaminig services offer this (unfortunately, most do not offer it as an option but as part of their system).
As h20534 said, have the possibillity to pick up from the same song of the playlist one was listening to on one device (either desktop or android) in another device.
I think that, since playlists are already synched on the server, it should not be difficult to achieve this with a dedicated sync of the position of the playlist.
Make sense, appreciate the request/idea!
Just to know: are you planning to develop on this or should I write a “feature request”?
I take the occasion to congratulate you on your excellent work! The more I use it the more I love it!
That’s very kind of you. No need to write it up, I actually did some playing with the ideas a few months ago, and it’s on the list of things to productionize when we have some time.
If I understand the requirement correctly I belive this will possible using flinging when receiver capability is added to Plexamp.
In the meantime this can be achieved, somewhat convolutedly, via an intermediary Plex app with receiver capability - Plex Web App, Plex for mobile or Plex for desktop.
Plexamp for mobile
- Select Player - [intermediary]
Plexamp for desktop
- Select Player - [intermediary]
- Select Player - This device
Not elegant, but it does the job.
I do not think I understand what you mean.
Are you saying that is it possible to “sync” the current playlist that I am listening to on Plex Web App or Plex for mobile or Plex for desktop?
Could you expand a bit on this? Thanks
The workaround I suggested will “move” the current play queue from one Plexamp instance to another and is based on the, possibly incorrect, understanding that your goal was to continue listening, on a different device, to a play queue in progress.
Plexamp can control playback on supported Plex receiver apps.

Oh, ok. I got what you mean.
It impies casting the current playing queue from, for instance, my Plaxamp to a Plex app (like Plex Media Player) on my PC.
Somewhat “dirty” workout, still it does what I had in mind.
Still, I hope Plex just manage to add a “sync” function of playing playlists on different devices, like many streaming services already offer.
Plex Companion is pretty much equivalent to Spotify Connect if that’s what you mean. I often have multiple controller apps connected to various receiver apps when at home and can quickly switch to “This device” on Plexamp mobile as I walk out the door to continue the play queue.
I agree the situation would be greatly improved by Plexamp being granted the receiver role, which has been mentioned as an intention.
It’s worth noting that Plexamp is not currently an official Plex app and, as I understand, is developed by Plex developers in their personal time.
Would be greate to sync play progress between plexamp devices.
I tried to go the way mentioned here.
I have on one PC Plexamp open and tried to play to plex web app, but I cannot see it in the list of devices.
Best regards,
Stefan
