Plexamp won't resume playing without restart - MacOS

Hi,

I recently purchased a lifetime pass, primarily to get the latest Plexamp app, having used the original freely available version for years. It was great!

The new version is also great … but I repeatedly have to restart the app to be able to resume playing. This doesn’t happen all the time but it must happen about 50% of the time.

What I observe when the player won’t resume is that pressing play makes the track time move forwards 1 second, but nothing plays, and the little progress indicator jumps backwards and forwards about a pixel, like it’s stuck. Tis doesn’t only happen when I step away and the computer sleeps, for example. It can happen if I stop the player for just a minute or two to concentrate on something. It’s really very annoying!

A lot of my music is on a NAS drive that’s permanently mounted on my laptop, but most of what I listen to regularly is stored locally, so I don’t think it’s a local network issue.

I’m currently running Plexamp 3.4.2 on a MacBook Pro running MacOS Mojave 10.14.6.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

thanks for your support! i can’t say i’ve heard this issue before, but you are running a rather old version of macOS

  1. any special audio h/w here?
  2. can you post a Plexamp.log file when it’s stuck?

Hi Elan, thanks for getting back to me.

There was a reason I was stuck on MacOS Mojave, which was that there was a known issue in Catalina that caused regular Bluetooth audio dropouts for a minority of users, of which I was one! So, I tried updating a couple of times and had to roll back both times.

Anyway, I’ve now bitten the bullet and upgraded to Big Sur and, touch wood, no more issues with Plexamp resuming. So I guess it was some sort of incompatibility with Mojave.

Thanks again. Love the app, and Plex in general!

Awesome, thanks for letting us know, and glad it’s all working now!
