Plexamp iPad: No Audio Until Restart, Progress Bar Loops

Server Version#: 4.145.1
Player Version#: 4.12.0

I’m experiencing a consistent issue with Plexamp on my iPad. Things work fine, but sometimes when I attempt to restart a track after pausing it, the progress bar begins to move for a few seconds, then jumps back and repeats this cycle—without any audio output. The only way to resolve it is by restarting the app. Once restarted, playback works as expected.

I use a Dragonfly DAC connected via lightning. This setup has worked flawlessly for a couple of years and only recently started having this issue.

This happens regularly and disrupts playback until the app is fully restarted. Any guidance or a fix would be appreciated. I’m happy to enable debug logging and submit logs if needed.

Thanks in advance.

Hi - Anyone? Basically, every time I pause Plexamp I will need to restart it before I get audio again…

Please post Plexamp logs when you get it into that “snapback” state.

I’m almost tempted to blame an iOS update as we really haven’t changed the code in this area in quite some time

If it’s easy to reproduce we’re happy to spend the time debugging the issue with you.

Sure thing - happens almost every time. Here are the logs.

Do you know if this started with the Plexamp 4.12 update or perhaps an iOS update?

I have a Dragonfly over here so will see if I can reproduce.

I tried on macOS and iOS simulator and wasn’t able to reproduce the issue. I don’t have the right USB-C to A adapter to plug the Dragonfly into an actual iOS device at the moment.

I am curious to hear when you think the issue started, and in the next week or so will have the correct cable to try over here.

Pretty sure it wasn’t the Plexamp update, but it could have been near an iOS update.

I have removed the Lightning splitter and DAC - we’ll see if it happens under this setup.

You know… I recall there was an iOS update a year or two ago that broke this stupid Lightning “Camera Adapter” thing entirely (the iPad wouldn’t charge through it) and they had to patch iOS again to fix it. Maybe did something stupid again. Like this thing isn’t a part of their normal regression testing…

It’s possible, you never know!

The logs don’t show any errors at all, as if it playing happily (while of course not). It is possible the issue is in our low-level audio libraries which are somehow not detecting the device going to sleep, or maybe iOS isn’t keeping it informed.

Did it again without the camera adapter or Dragonfly. New logs attached.

Nothing new or suspicious in there, but I do see something possibly interesting. If you feel like it, DM me your email and I’ll get you access to a build with a change which might help (but don’t get too excited, it’s a long shot).
