hi hippojay, a niggle with the plugin but maybe nothing you can do anything about: for plex collections where the ‘sort title’ is set (ie James Bond 01,02 etc) these do not carry over to XBMC (they sort by ‘title’ only). Is this fixable? Thanks!
Thanks so much for getting that version of Quartz out so fast. Its so great to be able to easily use XBMC plugins within a 'Plex' environment!
There are a few issues I noticed with the newest Quartz skin though but could be related to the nightly build I am using. I grabbed the nightly build for a Mac you suggested dated September 16. The 2 issues I am having are that no poster/fan art are displayed when viewing shows, episodes, etc but the show / episode description does show. The other issue which is oddly strange is that I need to 'unselect' enable plex intergration within the Quartz menus for plex intergration to work... if I select/check the option it goes back to XBMC mode.
I was wondering if anyone else experiences these issues with the nightly builds. Maybe I will try a newer or older build. Any suggestions?
/Jason
What version of the plugin are you using? One relese (3c or 3d) had an issue with fan art/thumbs. I would use version 4 as the last working release.
I was looking at removing plex integration from quartz and having just a plex focussed skin (with access the xbmc plugins). This was probably part of that work, But I thought I had reversed the change. This is part of some work I am looking at to make xbmc more of a plex client and easier to get running.
Upgrading to 4 did the trick! Thanks.
One last feature request I would like you to put on your list (no big rush IMO to implement it though) is to have the music show theme intro for each show to play when selecting a specific tv show.
You accept donations? If so what email address can I paypal you a donation of $25?
I did have a look at this earlier and was able to play themes, but it was the stopping that caused problem. there is an XBMC addon called tvtunes that does this, so I just need to understand it.
it's a hobby for me, so I don't like to accept donations. Either keep it in your pocket, or pass the $25 to your local charity :)
Hey hippojay,
New to the PleXbmc add-on. I have a few questions. Is the skin.cirrus-ex.plexbmc I got off of github from Aug 9, 2011 the latest Cirrus skin? If so, in My movies I can't seem to get to the Rightlist view - is this view available?
So I will be able to keep two libraries going - local XBMC under movies and the PMS library under My movies - correct?
If I just want to run the PMS library I would have to leave at least one file behind to access the library mode - is this correct?
In PMS I added a section "Kung Fu Theater" How do I get it to show on the home screen?
I’ve just installed PleXBMC on my mac mini (where my plex Media Server is also installed).
All media is located on a NAS.
I’m using the Moded Quartz Skin and everything is working just fine except that some posters are not appearing.
I can see the name of the movie and it will play but the movie poster is missing. This happens on about one quarter of my movies.
Does anyone know what might be causing this?
I’m using the latest XBMC (not the nightly)!
Thanks in advance…
Edit: Just to add that in PMS all cover art is correctly displayed and is also displayed correctly when I use the plex client.
Edit 2: Perhaps this is an issue related to the size of the JPEG? In the Quartz Skin is it necessary to use a certain size for the movie JPEG?
Finally I can play with my Plex library from Windows!
thanks a lot!!!
1 strange question: is the “extra thumb” of xbmc supported? (i got all fanart and thumb working, awesome!)
I don't think the extra fan art or extra thumbs in XBMC work. I'm not entirely sure what they do, as I've never really used XBMC as XBMC (if you know what I mean). It might be something that should be written into PMS as an agent or feature.
Cow,d you explain what it does?
I've not seen this problem before, usually if one thumb works they all do (as the mechanism is the same). I'll check it out today, but I'll probably need a plexbmc debug log. You could also try deleting the thumbnail cache and let plexbmc get then from the PMS again:
Stop XBMC
Delete two items from XBMC_HOME:
~/userdata/thumbnails
~/userdata/database/textures.db
Restart XBMC
This will removal ALL images that have been cached by XBMC.
amazing work hippojay! i’m now a VERY happy plex/xbmc user. iOS and Android devices are icing on the cake.
the link for one of the skins is 404
https://github.com/downloads/hippojay/skin.cirrus-ex.plexbmc/skin.cirrus-ex.plexbmc-0.3.zip
when watching something in my “Recently Added” list, upon finishing it started onto the next video in the list…how do I deactivate this feature?
@hippojay do you use ATV2 or some other thin client?
JohnE - I’ll check out that link. Might have tidied a few things up and missed an old link.
As for auto playing the next, it’s a bug/undesired feature in XBMC. You can stop it happening by turning off “automatically play next track” in XBMC setting -> music
This is fixed in the next version of XBMC (called Eden).
EDIT: I don’t use an ATV2, I have an acer revo running OSX ( hackintosh) but I’m going to be moving it to Linux to take advantage of XBMCs refresh rate changing and working standby.
Hi there,
First of all I’d like to thank hippojay for the great job he has done with the plugin and the skin mods. I can finally use xbmc sub downloader while using my centralized db!! yay!
I have a couple questions to ask, though:
-I’m using aeon.nox with the plex integration in the home screen, and I can’t seem to figure out how to change the backdrops for tvshows and movies. As much as I love dogs (and Barkley), I’d like to get fan art or any other image as a custom backdrop.
-Is there any way to hide the watched tvshows? If I set up the view to “hide watched”, it hides the episodes but to the show. Meaning the show cover still shows up (with the watched label on), with 0 episodes availaible inside it. Is it a bug? For the movies section, it works out of the box.
Thanks in advance!
T.
I’ve been running XBMC since original xbox days (2003) and there used to be guys who would release developer builds that were known to be more stable than others…does this exist anymore? My main question is how do I know which of the recent Eden builds is stable.
From my experience, most of the nightly builds are stable. I've run a couple recently and have all performed as they should. The most recent one I've tried is 27th Sept.
hippojay,
I really like the grainy refocus skin. Would it be difficult to add plex integration into it?
Do you have any docs or whatnot to assist users in porting skins to work with PlexXBMC?
Thanks
PS. I am a professional python developer so all I would need is a very few pointers on what needs to be included to hook into PlexXBMC, or just a copy of an original skin like Quartz and the PlexXBMC integrated one so I can do a diff so see what was changed. I have not done any work with XBMC or Plex skins but have read the api and am also in the progress of writing a few plugins for both.
thanks, i'm looking forward to running the latest and greatest. is it possible to install both stable and nightly builds
EDIT: I have them both installed but problem is that they both point to the same data folder with the theme settings. not sure if this will be a problem.
That's what I have on my macbook but beware that last used skin will be active in both versions, meaning it will activate dharma skin in nightly build since it was last used and vice versa. Pre-eden skins are not Dharma compatible and some features may not be functional at all.
Some info, that might be useful:
I'm preparing new release, which will feature separate Addons section (or Channels in plexian:-). I'm considering adding alternate home layout as well, hoping to make it easier for small kids. Not sure if I'll go old frontrow vertical or aeon like horizontal route for this. Suggestions welcome.
This will be for pre-Eden (nightly builds) only and may not work in Dharma at all.
Feel free to post suggestions regarding the above mentioned, views or looks in [forum](http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=101319).
One question about plugin - if you happen to have a few kids links along with a links for grown-ups in Movie section like:
- Kids cartoons
- Kids movies
- Mom's movies
- Dad's movies
How do you separate them into different profiles? I'm using profiles and 2 logins - Kids & Adults. I probably can not use integration method in my case and would have to add them separately through favourites?
Hmm - I have seperate kids sections and movies sections but ,as you say, they all come under one link (movies or TV).
One thing that does work well with kids is art - my son used to navigate by pictures, so the ability to display the fanart for a section would aid with navigation.
As for profiles, is there a way of signalling back to a plugin what particular profile is active (some skin string or setting). That could be used to modify the display of sections depending on what profile. But then you would have to configure what sections were in what profile in the plugin. Plex Media Server needs to have something included like this at the top end, so accounts and section could be stored centrally.
Or If we could signal profiles, then i could automatically sort them on a keywork in the section name “Movies (kids)” or “Kids movies” would be viewable under the “kids” profile. might be a bit hit and miss though. Linking through favorites might be the easiest way in this situation
A pro developer! In that case you wince when you look at my code..
Anyway, if you look at the Quartz skin in github you should see what I do as I maintain an xbmc and a plex version of the home menu:
1. All the inital code sits in 720p/home.xml
2. I have two seperate pages from here in:
2a. 720p/includeplexhome.xml
2b. 720p/includexbmchome.xml
You should be able to see what ive done from here.
The skin integration works by the plexbmc plugin exporting some variables into the skin:
1. First, run the plugin code in the skin using the skin argument (XBMC.RunScript(plugin.video.plexbmc,skin))
2. This exports a number of variables (with an associated section number %d). There is no limit to the section numbers, but I only access first 10 in my skins:
plexbmc.%d.title - title of the section
plexbmc.%d.subtitle - name of the mediaserver
plexbmc.%d.path - full XBMC command to access the sections (ActivateWindow(......))
plexbmc.%d.art - full path to fanart
plexbmc.%d.type - what type of section (movies, tvshows, music, photo)
plexbmc.%d.icon - path to thumb
plexbmc.%d.thumb - path to thumb
plexbmc.%d.partialpath - a partial XBMC command to allow modified mode calls. Used to get media server listings..
plexbmc.%d.server.video - link to video plugin on server number %d
plexbmc.%d.server.music - link to music plugin on server number %d
plexbmc.%d.server.photo - link to photo plugin on server number %d
plexbmc.%d.server.online - link to plugin management on server number %d
plexbmc.%d.server - number of Plex media servers we are talking to
3. You access these in the skin by reading them:
Window.Property(plexbmc.0.path)
or
$INFO[Window.Property(plexbmc.0.path)]
One reads as a string, the other for a function - I think.
4. I also call the plugin with a mode 22, this is for displaying a list of servers for a particular function. For example:
plugin://plugin.video.plexbmc/?url=http://online&mode=22
This will produce a list of all media servers, with onward links to the plugin management. There are similar video, music, photo arguments for those plugin types..
