PleXBMC client for XBMC

I picked up a USB drive off of Amazon that worked well for with my Raspberry Pi. So far no problems in “super” mode.

Here’s a link to the drive if anyone else needs one:

Corsair Flash Voyager 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive CMFUSB2.0-16GB

Great. Sorry if I caused you to trash your first install - although the reinstall is pretty speedy anyway (especially with a faster stick).

I still find XBMC transitions a little slow, but it not too bad considering what it’s cost.

Anyone an idea as to why my PleXBMC is not working, it just shows a blank list when starting the plugin.

I have tried turning off my firewall, changing sharing settings and even turned on windows streaming…

Normal Plex client connects fine

NOthing that I can see - I haven;t yet upgraded to the latest PMS - so perhaps there is something there which is slightly different. I'll have a look tomorrow for you

NICE!!!

You've inspired me to get some remote control app work done that I've been putting off (mainly because I thought it was going to involve A LOT of work, especially as plex uses this GDM stuff and not bonjour, which I already had the code for). It's 90% done, just need to put in some resume code and some xbmc settings.. Maybe this weekend...

The watched/unwatched flags don’t show up still for me when I drill down to the episode level. Is there any other setting I should check other than the one in PleXBMC?

Hi, thanks for the reply Hippojay

I currently have 9.9.4

If I look at the log and try to go to the URL (when it tries to load the movies and tv shows) it opens an xml file, where it shows now “library” instead of Movies and Tv Shows.

Hope that helps a bit

Hi Hippo,

First I want to thank you for this project.

Now, my issue, I am trying to play Netflix videos via the eponym Plex channel but nothing happens.

Below is my log. I hope you’ll be able to see what the problem is.

Thanks again.

@hippojay

Any plans to make PleXBMC show as a client to the server? I would really like this for setup with the Maraschino work I am doing and also for my Remote.

Go on then. I'm just finishing up a new XBMC addon: **script.plexbmc.helper**

Register as a client to the local Plex Media server using GDM [multicast]

Allowed Basic remote functionality (pause, stop, left, right, etc) through the normal XBMC UDP service

Supports the ability to initiate the playback of media via plex.app (script includes a small web interface between Plex HTTP commands and XBMC JSON)

Supports resume via the plex.app
I'm currently just adding some bits and bobs to check that plexbmc is installed and get the version number, plus removing a lot of debug code - but apart from that it runs ok.

It's on github at the mo if you want to look: https://github.com/hippojay/script.plexbmc.helper

You sir are awesome! Thanks for that! I will be testing this out very soon.

EDIT: Just tried it and it appears to be working!

EDIT 2: Commands through the server seem to be working too! (I just tried Pause so far) so now XBMC is closer to not being treated any differently then my Plex clients! Woo Hoo!

Thanks for testing? Was that on a Windows install or something else (as I’ve only tried on Windows).

The only issues I have are:

 1. Frequency of registering renewals (not sure if I need to do this every 3-5 seconds)
 2. Speed of web server (if you look in the logs, it is slow to respond and I’m not sure why)
 3. XBMC Frodo doesn’t support the sendKey over JSON, so I cant get this to work. (hmm, in fact I think I may have left some test code for that - better remove it)

I tested on my Mac with Frodo. I didn’t test sendKey, just messed around with some play back controls and did notice that there was a slight delay from me issuing a command to it being completed but for me it was just a second or two which in my book that is something I can live with.

Also: I turned off the enabled setting and watched my servers clients list and I didn’t see it drop off in the 30-40 seconds that I had it off…so I am not sure about the time you need to keep sending either.

Thanks - I think starting media is an acceptable delay, sending keys, isn;t - but then again it’s not supported anyway - so isn’t an issue at the mo.

Asd for the clients list - mine drops off almost immediately if I suspend the service. I’ll drop the devs a line and see what’s needed

Go on then - I’ll put a release up

PleXBMC Helper - FRODO

This addon integrated plex.app remote controls into XBMC Frodo. So from the iOS app you can navigate around, stop and start playback. You can also start media playback and resume media playback.
[] Displays as a client in standard Plex applications (Register as a client to the local Plex Media server using GDM [multicast])

[
] Allows Basic remote functionality (pause, stop, left, right, etc) [through the normal XBMC UDP service]

[] Initiate playback and resume from the plex app remote (script includes a small web interface between Plex HTTP commands and XBMC JSON)
Known Issues
[
] It can take a few seconds for play back to start

the virtual keyboard will not work, as sending keystrokes is not supported in XBMC Frodo
Amazing work Hippojay! A couple of things. First of all, I forget, how do you know which RA library number corresponds to which media library in PMS? You mentioned it a while back, but I’m having a tough time finding the link (Edit: Nevermind, found it at <PMS_address>/library/sections.

Also, I noticed when “Fanart” (Quartz V3) is chosen as the Season view, the script fails.

Thanks - it was a typo - should have been fanart 1 not fanart - FIXED.

Sorry, but I have no idea. I've just updated my media server to the same as your [version="0.9.7.11-d353989"], loaded up skin.aeon.nox and started the plugin without issue. All items display correctly.

From the log file output you've sent, I can see that the client is talking to the plex media server and pulling out the right data - so all the correct things are happening

My suggestions
1. Check if you have any menu filtering set - such as unwatched or watched or something. I wasted 20mins earlier on today, on what I thought was a display problem with TV shows - only to find that I had turned filtering of watched episodes on... Check those views.
2. Try another skin (such as the QuartzV3, which I test with).

Let me know how you get on.

Did you update QuartzV3 to the 0.7.3 from the previous page (https://www.dropbox.com/s/mj9jnexm8y6zc1w/skin.quartzV3.plexbmc-v0.7.3.zip). There was a fix in that for watched flags on tv.

Also, make sure you have plex style watched flags set in the look and feel settings.

New PleXBMC release, plus a recap of other latest versions:

PleXBMC V3.0.5 [Frodo]

This release is mainly fixes, but also includes functionality to allow PleXBMC Helper to resume media.
[] FIX: an annoying forced refresh on settings

[
] FIX: ensure that file:// plays correctly (quote/unquote issue)

[] FIX: Error when running addon with skip images set

[
] FIX: Correctly skip images now

[] FIX: Script error if tv seasons were set to fanart (now changed to “fanart 1”)

[
] FIX: Minor notification typo

[] ADD: Changed setting defaults to match plex client settings out of the box.

[
] ADD: Support the resume of media through PleXBMC Helper.

PleXBMC Helper - v3.0.0 [Frodo]

This addon enables the iOS and Android offical Plex.apps to control PleXBMC. When enabled, the client will show up in the list and allows you to navigate around, stop and start playback. You can also start media playback and resume media playback. Needs PleXBMC 3.0.5 for full resume support.
