PleXBMC client for XBMC

I can’t seem to get it to connect to my server.



“cannot see any servers” or something of the sort.



I have manually set the ip address and I’m running it on a raspberry pi. I have had this working before but I’ve just done a reinstall on USB and nadda.







EDIT: Okay, I’ve got them up by using myPlex. However I have some libraries that have been shared with me and it’s impossible to determine which ones are which.

EDIT - forget that - you said you set the IP address manually. If so, also make sure that Bonjour is turned off.

If myplex is working, then it sounds like teh emdia servers are on line - so I would look to see if they are available over the local network correctly. Have a look through the logs and it should show the connect error message.

Hmm, it's still not working. I made sure the port, username, and password all matched.

Which bit isn't working?
* Showing up as a client in plex app?
* Basic remote commands
* Trying to start Media remotely.

If teh client isn;t showing up, try refreshing the plex app. It looks like the app will only find clients when it starts up, if a client is started later is doesn't always show.
If basic commands to not work, then there is something wrong with the basic XBMC functionality - as the helper doesn't intercept or alter these
If everything works, but starting media - then there is a web server issue, either helper or XBMC.

Try connecting directly to the helper:
http://localhost:3000/version

If this doesn't work - then the webserver wasn't able to start. Maybe something else has port 3000 open (I don;t seem to be able to change this, Plex only seems to send it to this port number)

I think I have the same problem as lockdown571. All my stuff is the same but no matter what I do my iPhone & iPad with the same Plex app isn’t seeing my Raspberry Pi as an player option. I’ve rebooted my Pi, forced quit the Plex apps so they started up fresh…etc I even removed the need for a username & password completely.



I can get a remote to show up in my web browser at the IP:port I set though but none of my Plex media is there.



I tried 3000 as a port but it said webserver unable to start.

This my first post here, after using the PlexBMC addon for quite some time. I really like your work hippojay!



I have been struggling in getting the Helper to work. I initially received messages that the Helper was not succesful in processing the request, even though I was able to see it was started (by looking at port 3000). I managed to get it working by manually adding the webserver port and username to the Settings.xml file. Somehow adjusting the settings in the gui did not work.

Everything is how it should be and my iOS and Mac clients pick it up fine. I'll have a peek at the log file when I get a mo, is it a general XBMC log or one specifically for PleXBMC?

It’s just the normal xbmc one - you’ll need to turn debug on in the plexbmc addon to get all the debug info.

Hi, I just tried to get RaspBMC + Plexbmc + and one of the Plex skins to get working.



The system run on the latest version of Plex Server, Raspbmc and PleXBMC.

The PleXBMC Plugin find my Server (fix ip no bonjour). I can see the sections,

but if I try to select one of them i get the following error “script error: plugin.video.plexbmc”.



I can’t install the quartz plex skin to. If I try install any version of them I get an dependency error.

The only “requires” addon seems to be the xmbc.gui!?



What can I do? I already start the debugger, where can I find the log?

  I was also wondering if smarter filters implementation would be possible - left arrow for view option, right arrow for filters menu? Currently it’s intermediate filters menu or none at all. I thought it could be nice to always go directly to media but with an option to bring up side menu with filters once you are there.

I’m pretty sure that i’m the only one with the following request and therefore it won’t have that much priority on your list of things and i fully understand that…



You may remember my request to be able to filter out PLEX sections under Quartz’s home screen.

For example have my “Poadcast” or “Concerts” section (of course both are Movie sections, because the lack of a proper music video scraper in PLEX) displayed under the MUSIC tab rather than the Movies tab.



I know it’s almost impossible to do so because of the way PMS handles it’s things.



What i can do ATM is saving favorites of my sections and place them wherever i want them on the home screen. But i would still have the original sections under MOVIES displayed.



So, would it be possible to create some kind of hybrid-mode for the “go XBMC” home screen?

To be exact, still having the shelf functionality of recently added items AND only the favorites to be shown down below?



Or if it’s simpler the ability to just hide PMS’s original section names?

It's not showing up as a client in the Android app, Plex Web, etc. Going to http://localhost:3000/version says this:

I seem to have the exact same problem - PleXBMC Helper not being detected by the iOS app or the server running on my desktop. If I run Plex Media Center on my desktop the iOS app detects (and can control) that just fine.

After installation of the helper I've both disabled/enabled it, and rebooted XBMC (I'm using raspbmc). All other settings are left at the default values (port, user & password).

xbmc.log file attached. Any advice on how to troubleshoot this further?

1. Not sure of a way - the PMS has this data, but it's not presented in any meaningful way at the client.
This is the type of stuff it does have:

It might be possible to catalogue this somehow.

2. Unviewed episodes. Either through the filter menus (plexbmc setings -> loon and feel -> enable extra filter menus) and then selecting the unwatched menu item
or there is a filter setting from within XBMC, which you can access by moving to the view change panel, (pressing left a couple of times when selecting an item usually brings it up)

3. I've yet to see a slow down on my RPi. I did push through a large 1080p (12Gb) file and didn't see anything. There are some advanced settings in XBMC which allow you to move the cache from memory to disk, which might help for the pi. I think you set the cache to 0 in to enable this:

EDIT: ah, i hit a bump in the road; it appears the ‘dummy library’ as a well, ‘dummy library’ is missing in my PleXBMC folder. Is it supposed to be included in the 3.04 ?

Question for you about support of Plex Channels from within PleXMBC. I’m running PleXBMC via Openelec on an rpi. Generally things are running quite smoothly. However, whenever I’ve attempted to play anything from a Plex Channel things usually don’t work out. For instance, when attempting to play any full episode of The Daily Show or Colbert Report, I only get the last 15-20 seconds of the episode. Those same channels/episodes play just fine on other Plex clients. Is compatibility with Plex Channels something to be expected from PleXBMC on an rpi?

Ah thank you. I already used an empty folder for it, but i though i'd be thorough if i followed to the exact letter...

[s]However, i've seem to run into the same issue as 'sasoRP'; im receiving "script failed' error as well as 'cannot connect to host' messages. PlexBMC connects to PMS, but can't seem to browser past the first folder, or like in other words; the first level of folders.
The log isn't very clear on what the issue is. If you want i can upload it later.

I'm running PMS (0.9.9.4) on a Synology NAS and I've checked:
- XBMC webserver running @ port 8080 without auth (tested with browser)
- PleXBMC Bonjour off
- PlexBMC fixed IP for server
- No myPlex
- Quartz (not v3) skin,- Quartz (not v3) skin,
- Other clients (Plex Android app) as well as PMS are working well
- Tested on Android Stick (Infinitec PocketTV) as well as my Samsung Galaxy Nexus, using a nightly Frodo build. Will test on Windows later
- All settings off in 'look and feel'

It seems as though your script.PleXBMC.Helper might assist me in configuring PleXBMC + PMS, however, i've unzipped this script into the XBMC folder and haven't been able to run it yet


EDIT: I've continued my search and my log was very clear on the windows machine: the wrong IP was used for content retreaval. Srowsing my PSM server (http://diskstation:32400/servers) i got this:





Ofcourse, this is the loopback adapter (lo) of the NAS instead of the network adapter (Eth0). I'm unsure where to change this variable, but i'm certain is a PMS issue, not PlexBMC.[/s]

So, i fixed the problem of not navigating further through the library..!

The fix for me was:

-Enable firewall in Synology Diskstation manager
-Make 1 firewall rule (this enables IPTABLES in linux 'under the hood'). I 'allowed 32400 TCP from all'
[s]-Goto SSH, run command: ip route add 0.0.0.0 eth0 (or the eth device you want to use).[/s] not needed
-Restart PMS
-Test with 'http://ipadress:32400/servers' (case sensitive)
-Also, test if clients are connected and seen by PMS with 'http://ipadress:32400/clients'


If the page displays the correct IP LAN address, PleXBMC will run fine :).


HippoJ, i've noticed you're on EVERY forum posting updates to your PleXBMC add-on. It's hard to track changes (this forum 'latest' PleXBMC version is 3.04 however, i've seen 3.05 on the XBMC forums :P

Is it perhaps possible to update to the PleXBMC repository? current repository version is very old (1.X something) and i was wondering how i would find new versions without needing to browse multiple forums :D just keep watching github?

Did you update QuartzV3 to the 0.7.3 from the previous page (https://www.dropbox.com/s/mj9jnexm8y6zc1w/skin.quartzV3.plexbmc-v0.7.3.zip). There was a fix in that for watched flags on tv.

Also, make sure you have plex style watched flags set in the look and feel settings.

I'm running QuartzV3 0.7.3 on my RPi. I downloaded it on the 13th. The plex style watched flag is set in the plexbmc settings. Numerous reboots and no change. And weirdly enough only some shows in the show listing have the correct plex flag.

just a question, I saw that the localisation of the menus, as well as with plex, are quite… not localized.

is there a way to translate them into another language?

Also note, that before making any changes to setting, disable the service, make the change, then re-enable. XBMC services do not automatically pick up settings changes.
