Have a problem with the plexbmc plugin
Everything was working fine until 1 feb then the next evening can see the different folders in my library however when I click them it justs rotates working for 5 or so seconds and then nothing.
This happens on both my pis, and as I said before everything was working beautifully

I simply wanted to install and use the PleXBMC client addon, however after installing it via the downloaded ZIP file “xbmc.repo.plexbmc-2.0.2.zip” (btw how come that the PleXBMC addon can’t be installed directly from within XBMC without having to download it externally: this makes it rather difficult to get and install the addon for example in OpenELEC?), I can’t find the addon anywhere in XBMC, after having installed it via the ZIP file.
What could be wrong here?

OK thanks Ashe. Now I managed to install PleXBMC 3.0.7 and configured the network settings.
But where do I find the Plex Media Server and my videos now in XBMC?
I tried to install the Quartz V3 PleXBMC 0.7.4 ( XBMC 12/FRODO only ) skin, but my XBMC would not let me (saying the addon does not have the correct structure). Do I need to install a separate PleXBMC skin at all after having installed PleXBMC 3.0.7?
Go to ‘Settings’, then ‘Appearance’ - Then on the right hand side under the Skin Confluence it has a ‘-Settings’, then go to ‘Add-on Shortcuts’, then under ‘Home Page Videos Submenu’ click on ‘Shortcut 1’, select PleXBMC. Then exit back to the homescreen and you will see a shortcut to launch it. (Dont need all this with the Quartz skin)
I think some people have reported this before for the Plexbmc skin (Quartz V3), but i have done a new install on a W8 machine today without any problems, perhaps OS dependant on this issue. Its not required to use a skin for Plexbmc (as above), but it does make it more enjoyable.
If in doubt on usage, go to the first post of the first page and there are 4 videos added by @hippojay which can help you through most of the configuration and setup.
OK thanks, now I understand that the PleXBMC 3.0.7 addon “only” opens the access to the matching repository if I am correct.
However when trying to “Get Addons” in XBMC/Settings/Addons/PlexBMC Addons [Enabled], I only see […] instead of the PlexBMC addon list!
Why is that so? [XBMC is connected to the internet]
Settings - Addons - Enabled Addons - Video Addons - Plexbmc (should say Enabled) then configure settings for PMS or MyPlex there
then go to Videos - Addons from main screen and open Plexbmc
which then should show a list of your PMS files
OK for some reason my XBMC addon database was broken. Deleted it, and then could finally browse, install and use the Plexbmc addon from the repo

Please, one more question:
I understand that Plex usually plays all content via the Plex server, even if the content is on a NAS. For this, the NAS must be assigned a drive letter on the Server machine.
IN XBMC however, content is best played directly via SMB from the NAS.
Now, if XBMC is the frontend (client) that reads media metadata from the Plex server, is it still possible to play the actual media directly (e.g. via SMB) from the NAS, instead of routing the media through the Plex server (and needing the same OS and the same NAS drive letter on every client)?

Might be an off topic question but yes XBMC is a standalone media player which can play directly from an smb share.
But it will be standalone, ie it will build its own library and metadata on each installation of XBMC. It can function with a shared library using limited UPnP or a MySQL database but that’s another story.
If you want the plex functionality on an OS in which only XBMC is supported then plexbmc is the answer
Yes – but is this not solved by the “override smb location” setting in PleXBMC?
Meaning that I can have the central Plex database, access the database via PleXBMC (e.g. in Openelec), but then actually play the media directly via SMB from the NAS?

PS: this actually seems to work: I started a movie in XBMC via PleXBMC with the “override smb setting” active, then shut down the Plex server, and the movie still continues to play on in XBMC.
Wouldn’t this prove that my favorite setup:
(1) movies on NAS
(2) Plex Server on laptop, and
(3) PleXBMC everywhere else reading the Plex database but playing directly via SMB from the NAS
actually WORKS?

PPS: the same -->(3) is not possible with the Plex Media Center on the clients, is it?

Which status are you referring to - last watched position of the movies? PMS seems to keep track of that status.

Yes, if you enable live TV in the skin settings, then it should appear beneath "Channels".
It is **a lot** faster. The raspbmc installer has an option to install on a usb stick. Select this, install the files to the sd card as normal, and insert into your RPi. ALso make sure a USB stick is attached. Now, when you boot the sd card and perform the installation, it will ask and install the OS files on the USB. sd card is still needed for boot, but the OS resides on the USB.
This is great for XBMC as the thumbnail cache stils on the USB and loads a lot quicker.
Ahhhhh now I managed to install the Quartz for Frodo Skin.
This makes PleXBMC simply AWESOME! I can’t believe how smooth everything works now!
Can’t wait to try it on Openelec!

I've tried it from a few different places/connections and it's working - so perhaps local to you. Anyway, I'll see about moving to the files area of googlecode which would also give me some download stats. I'll do that tonight (promise!!)
