Great stuff - I thought it might be, but hadn’t had a chance to verify yet (work blocks some of the traffic I need to use) There were some ffmpeg error messages (which drives playback in XBMC) about m4v files, which is outside of plexbmc.
Think I’ll put out a nightly this weekend to check further.
hippojay. Thanks for fixing that bug. PleXbmc is working great for me now. Thank you!

If you could provide a pre-eden (to include the library fix) windows build of XBMC with the patch that would be awesome (or instructions on how to build) as I would love to test the transcoding out.
Hi - I did have a go at building a new Windows version, but was having trouble with some of the dependencies for the latest nightly. I probably just need to clean up and start again, but as usual I’ve run out of time. I’ll give it a blast later on…
Hippojay,
I am using plexbmc in UK to try and watch ITV and 4oD but I am having troubles.
I am on XBMC 10.1 with shutdown fix for. My XBMC version is (10.1 Git:e9e9099 (compiled : mar 8 2011)).
I am having troubles running any content from Plex. I get the error ‘one or more items failed to play’
Pastebin link for my error log is as below.
http://pastebin.com/xD3ysB1G
Can you spot what could be error?
Thanks
adiatu
Hippojay,
I read through your info about how to submit debug info.
And below is the info with debugging for PleXBMC switched ON
http://pastebin.com/LvJsR405
I still cannot see the Online channels nor media held on my machine.
I wonder if it is an issue with Plex. But don’t know how to find it out and sort it.
Thanks
I got xmbc installed today on my new nettop nvidia ion 330. But unfortunately I cant seem to be able to install the PlexRepo. It doesnt seem to get added when i select the zip to install it. No error either. Just acts like it installs it, yet i cant find it when i go to view repos. Just shows the default xmbc one. I installed another addon (wireless manager) that worked fine though. Im not sure where to go from here.
Found out repos dont work with XMBCLive, even with persistent storage setup. I did a local install and things installed fine. Though my problem now is that i dont get an Addons option under videos. I actually dont get any options there, so i cant setup the ip for the plex server. Are directions now different than your youtube video shows?
Ok…I was able to build a windows XBMC (direct X) build based on the git as of last night and manually adjusted it with the HLS changes for transcoding. Here are my findings with preliminary testing of transcoding:
- Audio only comes through as stereo when transcoding. Optimally is should be straight AC3 or DTS (perhaps an option to allow DTS or not if people do not want the extra bandwidth)
- I believe this has to do with the following line in the plugin where the plugin is not sending over that it is capable of DTS or AC3 (unfortunately for the life of me I cannot figure out what the client capability string should be): myurl = “/video/:/transcode/segmented/start.m3u8?identifier=com.plexapp.plugins.library&ratingKey=” + id + “&offset=0&quality=”+g_quality+"&url=http%3A%2F%2Flocalhost%3A32400" + filestream + “&3g=0&httpCookies=&userAgent=”
- When stopping a movie it does not let plex know and the server will continue to transcode the movie for a couple of minutes afterward until the server times out and stops the movie.
- Plugin seems to ignore the “Enable Transcoding” setting if the “Stream from PMS” option is set to auto…setting “Stream from PMS” to http fixes this. (Please note that this may be intentional operation, just though I would bring it up)
- Skins:
A. Cirrus skin does not seem to be able to be added with build from latest git
B. For Confluence and Confluence (Plex) when Plex integration is not checked and Plexbmc is used as an addon then the poster and movie info do not seem to be working right when set to transcoding. See included image (Plex also seems to be using the pictures section). Also if using as an addon…it always seems to want to go to the screen you left from…any way to force to the main selection screen (i.e. recently added, etc.)?
I tested with other channels and
I can play content TED and Vimeo but NOT from iPlayer or 4oD.
Is this due to Plex not supporting Flash in Windows. Since my Media server and client(PleXBMC) are on Windows
Is there any update on getting iPlayer and 4oD working on Windows?
Thanks
Hi - and sorry for the delay. Yep I can see whats happening here, just gotta work out how to workaround it (it's another round XBMC hole / square PLEX peg problem as I try and mash these two products together)....
EDIT: got a fix working, which I'll push out with a few other fixes at the weekend. The media has to be played transcoded though as a limitation of XBMC (well, to be fair it's also a limitation of the Plex implementation of webkit playback)
Yeah, they might be how I have it set up. I'm not 100% sure how the capability header affects the playback for transcoding. When I get a chance i'll have a play.
My bad - I've never sent the stop to the transcoder. I'll build that into the current builds, as it's fairly simple and is required...
Ok - i'll check it out. I usually run with auto, so not sure why you are seeing that behaviour.
I've avoided nightly specifically because of these types of issues. With the dirty region stuff and some of the skins not yet being capable of running on the nightlies (and I *really* want to avoid fixing/converting skins) i've decided to sit it out for now. It's an area I'm going to visit shortly when I think the nightlies are fairly stable (plus I have time to write some patches for XBMC to get it to work with PleXBMC better).
But thanks for the feedback - i want to make XBMC Eden work really well with Plex Media Server.
Yeah I’ve been trying to hack the send string to include the client capability string, however all of my current attempts have either had the PMS ignore the capabilities or crash the uri function because the PMS server returns forbidden…
. I wish there was better documentation on these API calls…
:-) I tend to use tcpdump a lot - and watch what other clients do.
Does the roku allow ac3/dts on transcoding?
Don't think so but I may be wrong, however the ATV2 allows AC3 (and DTS but the ATV2 cannot play DTS with libraries they use to play so it is an option bit for now that always stays off). I am in the process of looking through their GIT to see if I can decipher the calls/capability strings that they are using...
I’m going to be building an htpc soon and am planning on using plexbmc with it. Does anyone know if you can use the plexbmc plugin in xbmc and get lossless audio bitstreaming still?
Also I am having this problem with all of my videos. I was looking through the log and noticed that I determines that the file is not local which it is. Not sure why it would do that.

It stars John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amanda Peet, Oliver Platt, Thandie Newton, Danny Glover, and Woody Harrelson. It was produced by Emmerich's production company, Centropolis Entertainment and was distributed by Columbia Pictures. Filming began in August 2008 in Vancouver, although it was originally planned to be filmed in Los Angeles.

The plot follows Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) as he attempts to bring his children, Noah and Lilly (Liam James and Morgan Lily respectively), ex-wife Kate Curtis (Amanda Peet) and her boyfriend, Gordon Silberman (Thomas McCarthy) to refuge while trying to escape the heightened change in the elements. The film includes references to Mayanism, the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar and the 2012 phenomenon in its portrayal of cataclysmic events unfolding in the year 2012. Emmerich has announced that the film will be his last involving disasters.

After a prolonged marketing campaign comprising the creation of a website from the point of view of the main character, Jackson Curtis, and a viral marketing website on which filmgoers could register for a lottery number to save them from the ensuing disaster, the film was internationally released on 13 November 2009. Guys, if I were about to perform a clean install of XMBC would it be better to run the stable or nightlies for PleXMBC?
At the moment, a stable is the best bet as I’ve not really tested or tweaked it to run on nightlies. However I’m hoping a lot of the missing functionality wil turn up in the nightlies eventually and at that point I might start recommending them.
Given the changes in Eden, I’ll be branching the plugin code and producing an Eden only version (I.e. Plexbmc version 2 or possibly changing the name to PlexOnX) sometime soon - just got a few bugs to work on and need to finish/update the skins (aeon/cirrus/quartz) and get them in the repo.
How about…Pleden
Hi hippojay,
First off wanted to say great work!! Loving PleXBMC… Was wondering if you have an eta on Plexflix support?? Did you still need some sample stream files??
Thanks
