PlexConnect - basic information

If this is an atv2 make sure that you are running at least 5.2 firmware (??) as the Trailer app needs to have the upper nav menu supported.

Just reset your dns and enter the trailer app to see if the upper nav bar is there.

Firmwares 5.0-5.21 (currently the latest) are supported (although something has broken in the pre 5.2.x firmwares in the last couple of days - should be fixed son though):

So do you have an IRC channel available? BTW I've submitted a pull request here: https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/pull/15

No IRC channel, we usually share our ideas on glassboard. For your pull-request, I put in a comment...

Well I would prefer PlexConnect to work similar to Plex Media Server (PMS)--where I turn on the computer and it runs in the background automatically with no visual presence (except in the task bar or somewhere discrete).

It seems impossible for my family to grasp the concept of running terminal commands to be able to view our collection of media.

So if someone could provide some assistance on the matter of running PlexConnect in the background automatically so my less-tech savvy family members could access the content easily--that'd be much appreciated.

Thank you

I am really new to this.  I would love to know how to do this as well.  I have everything set up and can see movies through the trailers app, but when I go to play them I get an error telling me that I can play.  I hope there is someone that can help me with getting everything set up.  Please let me know!

Is it possible for the Apple TV to update the date and time with the manual DNS changed to my local home computer?

Because it seems that when the Apple TV gets powered off, then on, no apps (except the “Cydia Apps” and settings) can load until the Apple TV has contacted apple servers for a time update.

Basically the manual DNS prevents the Apple TV from updating date and time.

Try running PlexConnect before switching on aTV - all apps need access to the Internet, which is not available once you reroute DNS and don't have a DNSServer running at the new address.

This seems to be the situation at the moment, and it makes sense at this stage of Alpha development:

The application is currently designed to shutdown as soon as you hit any buttons when the window is focused (it says this when it starts up). We have not yet released v0.1 (soon though) so anyone running this is running an ALPHA version from source code! There are ways to get round having to keep an open window running (if you really cannot just minimise it) e.g.: - on OSX using methods like the above, using automator or using the Platypus application to create a wrapper - on Windows creating a bat file then converting it to an exe running as ghost Feel free to use these methods if you know what you are doing or are prepared to research them, just be aware that we will not support them (you will need to revert back to the standard setup for that). When we do point releases, e.g. v0.1, we will look to release as applications to remove this issue.

Even with PlexConnect running, it seems the date and time doesn't update--leaving many apps unusable.
The only solution I have fabricated thus far is reverting the DNS back to automatic, (then updating the date/time) and then manually changing it to my DNS back to PlexConnect address.

I am curious about the auto run that was covered in the install.  After following the steps nothing has changed when i start my computer.  Has anyone else had a similar issue or am i just missing something?

a - open a new thread (this one is really old... and topic-wise nowhere close to your issue)

b - add more details (OS, version, ...)
