It's great to see you again - this time in the dedicated "AppleTV - PlexConnect" forum.
We figured that your response got overwhelming, bloating the original single thread a bit too much...
Now feel free to discuss your ideas, proposals, issues, solutions here - differentiated in "one topic in a thread" - this should give us a chance to a much cleaner discussion.
For a start... some links to additional project information:
I just tried it and it actually works quite well. AMAZING!!! The picture is much more smooth than my MacMini. Great work you guys!!!
There are two things that I noticed, when watching a movie.
1. There aren't any subtitles. (didn't read your FAQ before typing)
2. When Resuming a movie, that has been stopped and exited earlier, it will start at a different point in the movie. If you try going forward in a movie, then the timeline shown doesn't match the actual timeline.
Looking forward to a working transcode stream .... That's the issue I'm hung up on, and wonder if a thread could be started to look into that issue. I'm able to play some mkv files - which are tv shows - but not larger movie mkv's........ PMS gui has an easy way to grab metadata for comparison. It would be great to know what is working, in a new thread dedicated to transcoder issues :)
Is there a way to get the python script to run in the background (automatically?) so that it doesnt require setting up every time I turn on my computer?
minimize the window? I don't know, no windows guy...
Well I would prefer PlexConnect to work similar to Plex Media Server (PMS)--where I turn on the computer and it runs in the background automatically with no visual presence (except in the task bar or somewhere discrete).
It seems impossible for my family to grasp the concept of running terminal commands to be able to view our collection of media.
So if someone could provide some assistance on the matter of running PlexConnect in the background automatically so my less-tech savvy family members could access the content easily--that'd be much appreciated.

There was a note somewhere of someone adding a small something to achieve this - or at least something similar.
I think, he used a startup batch file of some kind. Sorry, but I really can't recall more details :-D
It works well for me but the first screen I see when I select "trailers" is blank and I can only see the headings of menu options when I move the cursor around and highlight each one in turn.
Apart form that there's nothing else on the screen, no icons, no text, nothing...

We haven't really put together a list of issues yet but if you check out the roadmap page on the wiki page you will see missing features (which pretty much covers everything apart from bugs).
Can you open a new topic with details (check sticky at top for info we need) for the issue you describe and it will be looked at?

How can I run this without the terminal window being visible?
Instead of having the .bat file run on startup have a shortcut run on startup that points to the .bat file somewhere. Right click > Properties on the shortcut and you can select it to run minimized.
