PlexConnect on ATV 7.0 GM (iOS 8.0 GM)

Can you still add cert via network method?

Blog says he did not use USB.

I can read :) I was asking if it was still available via the new IOS revision, not how he installed it which is pretty obvious.

For details see:

Trailers app and WSJ app is working, iMovie Theatre not.

I'm able to apply the trailers.cer on the 7.0GM just as I could on 6.x, but continue to get a 'Trailers is unavailable'. Wish I could say this worked as straightforward as miApple is reporting but I'm just able to get 7.0GM aTV working while my 6.x aTV is still running against the same PlexConnect server just fine.

Can you still add cert via network method?

Yes, the network method still works on my Apple TV 3 running Apple TV 7.0 GM seed.

As of yesterday, I get a message saying that the apple tv 3 needs an update, should I click on it or not? I really rely on plexconnect, does it still work?

Which ATV Software are you using? PlexConnect works both on Apple TV 6.2 and Apple 7.0 GM seed.

Did you close Plex and PlexConnect and restart both? If not, you'll get 'Trailers unavailable'. In my case, there was no need to restart the ATV.

One interesting point: My Mac always had the IP-address X.X.X.53, but now it is X.X.X.73. I don't know why it changed, I had fixed the IP-address. Did you check your IP-address?

No changes were made to the PlexServer host, only one aTV was upgraded to 7.0GM. (Existing aTV running 6.x still able to reach PlexConnect via Traillers just fine.) In the PlexConnect log, I can see the DNS service intercept the call for trailers.apple.com, but continuously receive the 'Trailers unavailable' message.

I've tried with latest pulls from iBaa's repo, as well as the Falco953 repo (which is the one I generally use). Both, with completely clean pulls and configurations (excluding the certificates) fail to work on my aTV with 7.0GM while the 6.x aTV works perfectly.

I'm a bit baffled, actually. I'm thinking a next step is to tcpdump the intercept and see what the response back to the aTV is.

is it possible your certificate did not load correctly on the ATV, as that is what it sounds like the issue is. (Unless apple are now checking that the certificate for trailers etc is theirs, but as others have said they have it working I think its more an issue with the loading of your certificate.

@tekBuddha: Which computer system are you using? Windows or Mac?

@drewbie: I think you right, once I had to install the certificate twice to get Plexconnect running.

I've noticed that I had to restart PlexConnect and my ATV's a few times for 7.0 to work..

I was running as a service on my W8 PC, but my 7.0 ATV didn't seem to find it, ran the .py and rebooted my ATV 7.0 and it seems to work on trailers.

Seems VERY temperamental on 7.0 and sometimes will completely miss PlexConnect and just go straight to Apple's Trailers.

Had to restart PMS + PlexConnect + ATV all around the same time to get it working..

I think if my PMS/PlexConnect server goes offline my ATV seems to "know" the correct Trailers location and goes there, after rebooting it then talks to PlexConnect.

As hinted by others, I traced this down to a certificate issue. Rather than generating via the 'createcert.sh' script in the support folder, I manually generated the certs and copied them into the assets folder. That got the 7.0GM aTV working! I haven't sat down to compare differences in the .sh vs what I ran manually, just happy to see PlexConnect back in business!

Just installed it as I was looking forward for refreshed UI.*

No dev account is needed in order to install IOS7 GM. Everything works OK for me so far, after installing trailers certificate via network and restarting Plex Connect.

Only problem I have with IOS7 is not PlexConnect related. It is that I find updated UI worse than the older one... Blue highlight is replaced with plain white rectangle so now we have white txt on black background with white selector around white highlighted items. Home page seems to be about only page with some color on it, spiced with mostly ugly icons. In fact, I can't remember if Apple ever had worse.

As hinted by others, I traced this down to a certificate issue. FYI: I created the cert file für trailers separately, too, using the batch file from https://miapple.me/downloads. But the cert file for WSJ was generated by OpenPlex.

I find it easier and more reliable to loads certs using the network method by using the ip address (no http prefix) for example:

192.168.1.100/trailers.cer

Could somebody who is running 7.0 please confirm weather or not PlexConnects on screen clock and end time is working. I’ve upgraded to 7.0 and none of the text overlays seem to work anymore :frowning:

I have them always on :) just kidding, will check.

They seem to work with some but not all videos. E.g. 720p MP4 is fine while 1080 is not. SD mp4 videos seem to be fine as well while AVI SD & MKV 720 both have this problem.

Same thing on 6.2 so this might be related to one of the latest commits. I’ve updated to latest commit today and I don’t remember having this problem before.
