plexconnect on atv2 jailbroken help

I have been reading through the forms but there is so much content that I am unsure what is New and what is old. 

 

I basically bought a jailbroken atv2 looking to run plex using my synology, but after reading I am told the app no longer works and threads are pointing towards plexconnect. My brother ran plex to his apple tv 3 by doing a trailers hack (plex connect?) but it required he had his computer on, which I would like to avoid. If i had to have my computer on I might as well hook my tv directly to my mac and run plex there. 

 

My question is.. If i run plexconnect to my jailbroken atv2 will i need to have my computer on? is there a way to run plex on an atv2 and using the synology? My roku was able to connect to my synology but the UX was horrible and I bought the apple tv2 thinking it would do the same as the roku but better. I also bought a jailbroken atv2 because it can play mkv. If I did plexconnect on an apple tv3 will it play mkv? I did airplay on an atv3 but had no sound. i guess i could alwasy airplay to the apple tv2 but id like to still use my phone.

You have basically two options:

  1. Install PlexConnect in the aTV2
  2. Install PlexConnect in the Syno (as CyberGhost84 suggests)

If you have PMS installed in your Syno and it uses a Intel / armv7 / ppc processor it really does not matter if the container is MP4 or MKV, PMS will remux it (Direct Stream).

I like this better for my aTV2's so they become portable also.

if i go with atv2 to synology does anybody have screen shots on how it looks on the apple tv menu? how does it access the synology content?

how does the plexconnect app look like on the atv2?

aTV2 doesn’t have many themes to use since it currently runs on iOS 5.3 only since that’s where the latest jb is latest at.
