PlexConnect on synology

I tried your newest installer and it broke the photo station. Uninstalled it and photostation came up again.

Is your PMS local and are you using a local IP for it?

Yes, it is on local ip. At Startup no Server is found (see log).

If i stop and start again Plexconnect in the paket-Centrum it works.

I Thing, the Problem is, that PlexConnect is started, befor Plex is ready. Is ut possible to add a start delay ?

I modified my /usr/syno/apache/conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf where diskstation.exampleonly.lan and exampleonly.home.org are my internal and external names for my server.

       ProxyPreserveHost On
       ProxyPass / http://127.0.0.1:5000/
       ProxyPassReverse / http://127.0.0.1:5000/

       ServerName exampleonly.home.org
       DocumentRoot /volume1/web

       ServerName diskstation.exampleonly.lan
       DocumentRoot /volume1/web

        ServerName trailers.apple.com
        ProxyPreserveHost On
        ProxyPass / http://127.0.0.1:81/
        ProxyPassReverse / http://127.0.0.1:81/

I then restarted apache with the command:  /usr/syno/etc.defaults/rc.d/S97apache-user.sh restart

After that, both PlexConnect and my web services (photo station, phpMyAdmin, etc.) all work and co-exist harmoniously.

Thanks to everyone involved on this forum from the plexconnect team, package author and all other helpful souls.

I hope my contribution on this forum helps.  :)

Everything works great expect some videos (mostly 1080p) respond with "An Error occured when loading this content".

I'm running the latest plexconnect spk package: plexconnect_noarch_0.1-3.spk.

The log (attached) doesn't tell me too much.  Can anyone see what's going wrong here?

Are the files natively playable by the ATV, if not they will need to be remuxed or transcoded.

If this is the case either your NAS needs to be powerful enough to perform the task or you need to remux your files using e.g. iFlicks/subler to a ATV compatible format.

See the links below to check your NAS:

Thanks for your prompt response. To be honest this is the first I've heard about Plex transcoding so I suspecting this to be the problem.

I've performed a MediaInfo on the video and I'm not sure if it's supported by ATV3. Can you provide any insight?

Format                                   : Matroska

Overall bit rate                         : 16.3 Mbps

Format profile                           : High 10@L4.1

Width                                    : 1 920 pixels
Height                                   : 1 080 pixels
Format                                   : DTS
Codec ID                                 : A_DTS
Codec ID                                 : A_VORBIS

If unsupported how do I go about enabling video transcoding on my Plex server? Is there a simple howto? Many thanks.

MKV is a container and not a format, unfortunately they are not natively playable by the ATV.

Usually they are either remux or transcoded by the PMS, if yours is not doing so automatically then it is not powerful enough (but you can check your model on the link i gave you) and you will have to remux (better and quicker at about 3 minutes per film and no loss of quality) or transcode (worse as it is slower takes more processing power and suffers from a slight drop in quality) your media.

Is there a program that can batch remux designated files on a Synology NAS? I've got a DS412+.

What is shown when you browse to photostation when plexconnect is installed.

Here's how I have my setup.

I have HTTPS turned on with a proper certificate installed. DNS Server is also installed. I created the correct zone entry and A record. Other packages installed include VPN, Surveillance, Cloud, Photo, Audio, Couchpotato, Sabnzbd, Sickbeard, Bliss, Download Station, Python (from Synocommunity).

I have the following domain name assigned to the server under Control Panel, DSM Settings, Router Port. home.tarzaban.com. Internally the server is called synogawad.tarzaban.home which doesn't really matter since I still use the external domain name internally as I have my router properly resolve to the internal ip address (I created a manual A record on the router to resolve to local ip for external domain name).

Everything works great using http or https://home.tarzaban.com including photo station.

I installed plexconnect from the link you have on the first post and unchecked start when finished installing. Edited the settings.cfg to disable the plexconnect dns server and fired up plexconnect manually. It then works to allow the atv2 to see my media.

When I go to any of the addresses using http I get the following errors

http://home.tarzaban.com/photo, http://synogawad.tarzaban.home or http:///photo

Error response

Error code 403.

Message: Not Serving Client 127.0.0.1.

Error code explanation: 403 = Request forbidden -- authorization will not help.

If I access the photo station using https then it works. The error makes it look like it's resolving to the plexconnect vhost.

Took the leap and installed DSM4.3 Beta. It does not play nice with PlexConnect. Did a fresh install; but it will not run. If you try to run it, attempt is made, but the status changes to 'stopped' almost immediately. Thoughts on where to look at logs, etc.?

Immediate stopping also occurs when there is already something running on port 53 (dns server for example), can you see if the dns server is installed and running in the beta by default?

Logs: /usr/local/plexconnect/share/PlexConnect/PlexConnect.log

Edit: for some additional testing you could disable the plexconnect dns

1) Edit /usr/local/plexconnect/share/PlexConnect/Settings.cfg

2) Set enable_dnsserver = False

3) Save and try to start again

Did a quick check - DNS Server is not installed, but a quick netstat -nlp shows that netmasq is running and using port 53.

 3886 root      1616 S    dnsmasq --user=root --cache-size=200
 8258 root     12144 S    /usr/syno/sbin/ddnsd

Not sure if DDNS is using this; but had that in use with DSM4.2. I have disabled the PlexConnect DNS and it now starts and stays running. Just need to check if its working. However, just noticed this subsequent install cause problem as AJAFAR reported in post#150 above - Error Code 403

On 4.2 my ddnsd is also running but dnsmasq isn't. Maybe you can just stop it and see what happens (does it have an entry in /usr/syno/etc/rc.d/ to stop it)?

No entry to stop it. I killed it instead (not sure what called it/loaded it). All seemed to still be working fine without it. Started PlexConnect and it runs as it should. However, PhotoStation is now not working (also from iOS app). Also, to access DSM I have to add the port (:5000) after ip address or I get an error (same error for /photo/):

Error code 403.

Yes, you need the python package from SynoCommunity: http://www.synocommunity.com/faq#addSource

(The python package from Synology itself doesn't work with the PlexConnect package at the moment)

I did this, but I'm only getting Python 2.7.3-0014 version. Can someone help? :)

Edit- I needed to uninstall Python after Synocoommunity was installed. That did the trick.

I'm trying to follow the steps, but can't figure out how to install Python from SynoCommunity. I've followed the first few steps in the link below, but I don't see a tab labelled "Other Sources" after adding the package source. Can someone help?

http://www.synocommunity.com/faq

In mine it's not called "Other Sources" it's called "Groups"- it's at the very bottom to the left, in package center.

-I'm on DS212j and DSM 4.2

bwynants,

I tried your newest plexconnect installer and it broke the photo station. cannot get photo station running again, tried uninstalling your plexconnect installer but photo station still does not work.

Get error "cannot find server"

Can you Help?

New Installer posted in first post that should support PlecConnect + Photostation + personal website on NAS

Thanks, I've been able to get Plex running on my Apple TV with this package. However, I am still not able to access PhotoStation anymore via the iOS apps or the web browser. On the web browser, I get the following '404 type' error:

Error response

Error code 403.

I followed the instructions on page 1, including the use of Synology DSN Server app.
I uninstalled plexconnect and re-installed the newest PlexConnect provided here.

Plex is working great, just still can't get PhotoStation to work. Could I be missing a step or doing something wrong?

Is the ‘enable web station’ checked in the web applications tab of the web services control panel? Does it help?
