More tests gave some more observations:
- I connected the two laptops to the actual main router (which is actually being used and got some scripts/mods on it). At first PlexConnect on one laptop would NOT show the libraries of the other one, but would still show the name of it and the “Search” line (GDM found both servers). After some restarts of the laptops and PlexConnect, a PlexConnect instance would only show libraries of the laptop it was running on (GDM found 1 server only).
- Connected the two laptops to another backup router (which was also reset to defaults and was installed with only an adblocking script): everything worked fine like in previous post.
- The Dell-Venue has a backup image of the Windows with more softwares installed. (Actually, only Microsoft Office was a major software suite, others were just 4-5 little softwares. However, I did apply some registry tweaks which includes some networking-related tweaks, disabling Windows Update etc…). So I restored that image and installed the new PMS version. And no PlexConnect instances on any laptop would be able to show the libraries on Dell-Venue (still showed the name “Dell-Venue” and the “Search” line). I then installed the old 0.9 version, and the libraries showed up
- Reverted the Dell-Venue to the fresh unactivated Windows, I then installed Microsoft Office and new PMS version: everything worked fine.
In summary, the issue comes from both modifying router and Windows apps/tweaks change. That’s why it was hard to trace the real culprits (and headaches came to me 
). The way old 0.9 version worked would also worth noticing.
However, at least now I got reproducible steps to make GDM work. Thank you for your patience. After New Year holiday, I’ll continue the tests, hope I can finally narrow down the culprits.
