PlexConnect Stopped Working

Hello All

I just want to say thanks in advance as I am sure someone will be able to fix my issue.

I have been running PlexConnect to two ATV's (one 2 and on 3) for about 3 months now with no issues. About 4 nights ago I noticed my ATV2 was not working anymore. I then tried my ATV3 to find out it had also stopped working. I have since noticed that for some reason BOTH certificates were gone from them. I then re-installed the certificates and tried again with no luck. So then I Started from scratch.... by installing everything over again and creating new Certificate and sending to both ATV's still with no luck. Nothing has changed on the Network as far as I can tell... my static IP for the Media PC is still 192.168.1.20.

My Server is running on Windows 7 64bit. Here is what PlexConnect is saying... hope this is what is needed to find my problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated... and Thanks again

It looks like PlexConnect's use of Apple's GDM has messed up the IP address of the PMS that PlexConnect is trying to connect to. Try disabling GDM: enable_plexgdm=False and set the IP of the PMS manually: ip_pms=x.x.x.x. Then restart PlexConnect.

Also, I wouldn't use Google's public IP 8.8.8.8 as the DNS Master address. Set the fns master to your ISP DNS address: ip_dnsmaster=x.x.x.x

Ok DrZeuss Here is what I have done;
I opened the Settings.cfg file and changed to what you said to try (i did the public address too but put google back in for now) then saved see below.

[PlexConnect]
enable_plexgdm = False
ip_pms = 192.168.1.20
port_pms = 32400
enable_dnsserver = True
port_dnsserver = 53
ip_dnsmaster = 8.8.8.8
prevent_atv_update = True
enable_plexconnect_autodetect = True
ip_plexconnect = 0.0.0.0
hosttointercept = trailers.apple.com
port_webserver = 80
enable_webserver_ssl = True
port_ssl = 443
certfile = ./assets/certificates/trailers.pem
loglevel = Normal
logpath = .
disable_plexgdm = False

This is then what I see once I have saved and restarted PlexConnect:

Thanks again for all your help

As per the “read before posting” thread, specifically the troubleshooting section, can you provide the details requested, especially a log with LogLevel = High (note the capital H is important).

Ok So here goes:

Apple TV 3 6.1

PlexConnect IP 192.168.1.20

PlexConnect Ver.# 0.3.1+

PMS Ver.# 0.9.9.7.429-f80a8d6

PMS IP 192.168.1.20

I Then set LogLevel to "High" restarted and Control C to close. This is the contents of Settings.cfg:

[PlexConnect]
enable_plexgdm = False
ip_pms = 192.168.1.20
port_pms = 32400

The Port 32400 is Open on my Router if that means anything
I also have created the certificates placing them in the Certificate folder in the assets folder. I also put the certificate on the ATV as well.
Thanks for all you patients with me as I am new to all this kinda stuff. If I have missed anything please let me know.
Thanks again

Hi guys,

i have the same issue. since 2 nights. It semes plexconnect can't connet to PMS.

My config:

  • Your ATV model (2 or 3) and firmware version (found under the ATV settings > general > about > Apple TV software):
    ATV3 5.3(6105)

  • The DNS server set on the ATV (found under the ATV settings > general > network > DNS):

  • The local IP address of the device that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on:
    10.10.20.200

  • Where your media is stored (e.g. internal drive):
    Drives V:, W:, X: (all drives on samba network shares)

  • The PlexConnect version number. If using Github source then a time and date of download (look at the creation date of the folder) and if you are using any testing branch e.g. the Elan/PlexInc one.
    Github (11.04.2014) Version: 0.3.1+

  • The content of your 'Settings.cfg' file (if you do not have this file you are running an old version, please update)

Swoop124 And everyone else having this odd issue...

I have fixed my problem. I use a Windows 7 PC for my PMS and PlexConnect server and this is what I did:

1. Used certmgr.msc to search for all the Trailer Certificates and deleted (I had four for some reason)

2. Removed Certificates off both ATV's

Used IPhone Config Utility to re-create and put back onto ATV's... *Note* do not modify the Cert that is there... delete and re-create new one.

3. Started things back up and everything is working great!!

Hope this helps for anyone else with this issue... and again thanks to all for the help.

Hahaha way to funny.... posting same fix at the same time!!! Well done sir!

hello,

now i can confirm, softwareupdate is not necessary, but it is working with Apple TV-Software 6.1.
