PlexConnect vs Roku 3

Sticking with the roku given that plexconnect appears to be in jeopardy.

Plus, I can maneuver with the excellent ui of plexapp on ipad and play my content directly on tv.

You are sticking with the Roku, yet you talk about playing content from the iPad to the tv which I am guessing you talking about airplay? Or am I missing some amazing iOS -> Roku feature?

At this point now it's already been decided for you.

Unless we can manage to get it working with the newest update, Apple TV is over for Plex for now.

Yes, you are missing something.. The iOS app can be used as somewhat of a remote for the Roku Plex channel.. It's similar to Airplay in that you can choose the Roku as your display device.. It works great as the iOS interface on my iPad is far superior to the Roku Plex channel interface..

Nice. I always wonders about the players section of that app. I never see my roku, but I'm guessing its due to the fact my PMS is at a remote location. I'll have to run a PMS locally and see if that's the cause.

That will be the cause.. Mine are both on the same network and required zero configuration.. It just works.. I was skeptical about the Roku at first, but after having it for about a month now, I have to say I'm quite happy with it.. The iOS integration was just a bonus (that I accidentally stubled upon, I might add).. The Roku interface itself isn't the greatest, but it's useable.. My 4 year old uses it without a problem!

Nice i dident know this either.. i bought one for my moms house so my kid can watch cartoons from our plex server at home..

if Roku make an update on the UI it will be the absolute best option in my opinion, if the get the interface same as on ATV it will even be better than ATv itself

Indeed it was. I install a local PMS, started and accepted the Eula once again. I can now see all my players and stream from my remote library to them from iOS app. Pretty amazing feature. I am actually very happy with the Roku. Could it use a custom UI? absolutely, but for now it's been the most stable and easy to use for family and friends at a price point < $100.

Plus the Roku channel is open source. I love the fact I have the ability to maintain my own branch and push modifications to the public channel.

Can the Plex app for iOS also be used in conjunction with PlexConnect on the ATV?  Do the devices (ATV and Roku) have approximately identical decoding power?  In other words, can they both handle complex streams of high bitrate?

A have an aTV and a Roku 2XD. Aside from airplay mentioned above the roku also IOS and Android apps as remote control. I like it  also because I don't have to worry about it stop working one day.

A definite advantage I think is that it can play a shared library, but what's even better is that after the first one I bought three extra in china for $31 each!
