PlexConnect works for limited time then "hangs"

Your ATV model (2 or 3) and firmware version:

Apple TV 3

The DNS server set on the ATV:

192.168.1.2

The device and operating system (including version number) that PlexConnect is installed on:

Mac Mini, OSX 10.8.4

The local IP address of the device that PlexConnect is installed on:

192.168.1.2

The device and operating system (including version number) that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on:

Mac Mini, OSX 10.8.4

The Plex media server (PMS) version number you are running (**do not put 'latest'**):

Version 0.9.7.28.33-f80a4a2

The local IP address of the device that the Plex media server (PMS) is installed on:

192.168.1.2

The PlexConnect version number. If using Github source then a time and date of download (look at the creation date of the folder) and if you are using any testing branch e.g. the Elan/PlexInc one.

Version 2013-07-01

The content of your 'Settings.cfg' file (if you do not have this file you are running an old version, please update)

I´m using the unblock-us service, hence the ip_dnsmaster = 208.122.23.22

[PlexConnect]
port_pms = 32400
enable_plexgdm = True
ip_dnsmaster = 208.122.23.22
ip_webserver = 0.0.0.0
loglevel = Normal
enable_dnsserver = True
ip_pms = 192.168.178.10
port_webserver = 80

detailed description of the issue (the clearer you can make this the better):

When I start PlexConnect it works on both my ATV3 for a short while. Then all of a sudden it all stops and it says accessing trailers and nothing happens. Finally a message shows up that it is unable to connect to PMS. If I restart PlexConnect it then works a while and then stops again.

PlexConnect.loghttp://pastebin.com/tGVjAmzX

What do you mean by it stops? In the middle of a film, if you have not used it for hours or?

Not in the middle of a film but often if I exit the PlexConnect/Trailers app I get the spinning wheel when I try to enter it again. At some occasions it has happened inside the PlexConnect when I was going from TV Shows to Movies.

Your log is extremely small, is this taken when you reproduce the issue?

What happens if you change the settings.cfg to read (make sure you get a new log file if you still have the problem - if not change the logging back to 'Normal')?:

[PlexConnect]
port_pms = 32400
enable_plexgdm = False
ip_dnsmaster = 208.122.23.22
ip_webserver = 0.0.0.0
loglevel = Normal
enable_dnsserver = High
ip_pms = 192.168.1.2
port_webserver = 80

Just a quick 'Me Too' on this, so that NiklasK doesn't feel like he's alone ...

I'm working right now on generating a clean log ... my Settings.cfg right now is:

[PlexConnect]
port_pms = 32400
enable_plexgdm = True
ip_dnsmaster = 8.8.8.8
ip_webserver = 0.0.0.0
loglevel = Normal
enable_dnsserver = True
ip_pms = 192.168.178.10
port_webserver = 80

Once I have a log from these settings, I'll try the ones you suggest above ...

Note that, as was  previous mentioned, this 'hang' only appears after leaving the system idle for a little while, and affects anything DNS related ... if I try and go into YoutTube, or NetFlix, it will indefinitely try to connect, so I don't believe its with the XML Feed to Trailer, but DNS resolution itself, but maybe there are one in the same ... ?

Will post more as it becomes available ...

Just wanted to chime in on this. When experiencing the above mentioned issues I was using the "Mac-App" to start PlexConnect. I uninstalled this and used the Github files and Terminal instead and this seems to be working properly.

i had this problem with the mac app and just moved to the make-your-own app guide and it works so good:

pst 7

http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/70149-has-anyone-created-an-applescriptapplication-to-launch-plexconnect-at-startup/

and you can make it seamless with dock dodger

 too...

following are the details...

windows XP SP3 for both plexconnect and PMS

ip_webserver = 0.0.0.0
loglevel = Normal
enable_dnsserver = True
ip_pms = 192.168.1.24
port_webserver = 80

We do not support the application wrapper that was done by one of our users, although we are looking at options ourselves.

If anyone is having the same issue with the user created app i would suggest posting in that thread:

http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/72533-plexconnect-mac-app/

This might be an late answer, but better late than never ;)

I just got this problem, and I just turned off and on my ATV and now it works again
