PlexKodiConnect: Kodi Plex Integration Done Right

@croneter a few days ago I was playing around with your ‘develop’ GitHub branch (can’t help but dabble)…

I installed ‘develop’ over the 1.1.3 release… I was amazed to see that landscape art and banners were available in my skin (from what seemed to be ‘PlexConnect’)

I cannot work out if this is something you have enabled via PlexConnect (think I saw a discussion regarding fanart.TV you were having) or whether I have some how inadvertently crisscrossed me Emby server ? (have Emby server running alongside PlexServer).

just intrigued to know how this was possible.

thanks, keep up the great work, looking FWD to the next release.

Well that must have been either Emby or some Kodi plugin that fetched the landscape art - Plex does not have that. However, starting with the new release 1.1.4, PKC should now fetch banners, where available

A new release is out for you guys.

  • Plex Watch Later / Plex It is now available!
  • Added banner art where available (looking at you @mini.Plex ;-))

Download: Releases · croneter/PlexKodiConnect · GitHub

##Changelog##
version 1.1.4
(you will need to rescan your library)

  • Plex Watch Later available as a separate Video Node!
  • Fix Kodi Movie Info showing instead of Episode Info
  • New settings option: use default Plex On Deck TV Shows
  • Fix TV show on deck view
  • Enable playstate update if Kodi does not give us a Kodi DB id
  • First startup: Add warning for large music libraries and not using Direct Paths
  • Fix KeyError: ‘librarySectionID’ during syncPMStime
  • Retrieve banner art when available
  • New setting: I own this PMS (needed if you manually set your IP)
  • Increased default full sync frequency to 60 minutes

nice work @croneter, shall give this a whirl now… noted: you mentioned ‘banner art’ and not also ‘landscape thumbs and logos’… am I correct in thinking PlexKodiConnect is also pulling in landscape art now from fanartTV?

if so this is a great step FWD !!

PKC currently does not fetch 3rd party artwork like fanartTV

Weird !! …I’m now struggling to want to update to 1.1.4. if I am going to loose my art, lol - my Plex collection has never looked so good brimming with Logo’s & Landscape Art !!

I’ve not been able to replicate this strange behaviour on another test build I was working on, you probably changed the code in the ‘develop’ branch (noticed there was alot of references to emby).

if your able to add banner art to PlexKodiConnect… is it something you may be able to implement with logo’s & landscape art in the future? like I said, my Plex collection has never looked so good

If your using the develop branch then yes it does pull in all the other artwork. Or at least it did with my PR request

most likely @im85288… I think it was your github art convo with croneter which first intrigued my trials with the develop branch. all of a sudden art was appearing and I couldn’t work out if it was coming from my emby server which was also running or PlexKodiConnect.

great work guys.

Since Plex-Team came out with PMP and abonded PHT, I tried PlexBMC and watched its development. But always felt Emby’s Kodi integration as the way to go, so far that I thought about switching to Emby!

I’m so glad that you filled that gap now and keep developing this plugin in such a pace! Had no time checking it out yet, but I am very excited to do so

Just wanted to let you know that your work is very appreciated!

Hey,

I’m trying to use the Plex Companion to fling something from another Plex account to Kodi - do you know if this should work ?

I have two plex accounts one is the PMS owner ( which sees all content ) and then I’ve shared the PMS server to another account which has a subset of content.

I’m trying to fling from an android phone that is signed in as PMS owner to kodi which is signed in with the lesser privileged account - it seems to work for content that the lesser privileged account has access too - but not content that it does not have access too.

Exactly, that is by design

Okay thanks. Was just wondering because it works on the Android Plex app so thought maybe it’s possible with. Kodi Connect too.

Yes fanartTV was shortly active on the develop branch. I deactivated it for now because the download and thus the full library sync took forever ;-). Sorry @im85288, forgot to tell ya

No problem at all @croneter - hopefully something an be done to speed it up as for me it didn’t actually take that much longer (but that may be dependent on the speed of your internet).

After installing PKC 1.1.3 i can no longer sort my TV shows by “Date added”. The option isn’t showing up anymore.

Can this be fixed in the next release? Thanks.

Don’t wanna bother you, @croneter! Are you aware of this bug?

Is there a reason why my comments are getting ignored? :frowning:
PKC 1.1.4 still doesn’t allow for sorting TV shows by Date added anymore…

Thought I had fixed it. I assume you did try a complete database and also PKC reset (3x yes)

Yes i did. Can someone else confirm that bug?

In which view / video node does this happen? Direct paths or plugin paths?

For me it happens in every single view in TV show sections. I’m mainly using Kodi’s “In progress TV shows” section and that worked fine until PKC 1.1.3

But also directly in PKC addon i can only select the following:

Available sort options for TV are:

  • Title
  • Episodes
  • Last played
  • Year
  • My rating

Available sort options for Movies are:

  • Title
  • Year
  • Rating
  • My rating
  • MPAA rating
  • Duration
  • Date added
  • Play count

I’m using direct paths.

EDIT:
Did a complete reset and changed to plugin paths. No change.

Hey,

Another quick question - what happens when you have multiple versions of a file ? For example for some tvshows I download both x264, and hevc ( hevc for archiving ) and x264 for watching and deleting - is there a way to specify which one I prefer ( it looks like it prefers the HEVC right now) which I dont like…

@croneter, with version 1.1.4 my local plex server is seen as a remote server, has something changed?

For the rest it’s working good.

How long does it take for new videos added to plex to appear in Kodi? The last time I tried it was taking very long.

edit I just reinstalled it and it does not add the videos quickly. I left it for 10 minutes and the new video still didn’t appear. It looks like the setting says 30 seconds. Do I have to look at something to trigger the library update?

Looks like a bug in your case - the background sync does not work like it’s supposed to. Adding new items through background sync should only take about 30+10 seconds.

Please send me your complete (!) logs with debug logging enabled (PKC settings - advanced). Then add any item to one of your movie libraries and scan that library to let plex discover it.

It works for movies but does not work at all for tv episodes.

Can someone test this out? I did a new install on my laptop and it does the same thing. New TV shows do not get added to the Kodi library. Maybe it will happen after 1 hr when the full synch runs.

Here is a log. The show was added to Plex. Waited 10 minutes and it isn’t on kodi.

I must say the concept is good, But there remain many issues.
Last night after updating plex server to 9.16.6 it crashed many times.
I tried to update from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 but it did update, couldn’t uninstall 1.3 to install 1.4 so started from fresh.
Loaded movies and tv show zip then plex kodi connect. As per instructions.
Constant restart on sync, so shutdown cubox, restarted plex on my Nas dsm412+ restart cubox, but still crashing
It took nearly 3 hours to sync, but only after turning off updates and force fan art cache to stop the restarts. And that’s with a full 100 mbps lan connection. No idea why it takes so long.
Then there’s plex library integration, issues. To get your libraries on home screen you need a different skin, so titan skin, and loads of configuration.
I will continue to watch this development of this, but am returning to plexbmc for reliabilityat this stage.

No, unfortunately that is currently not possible.
