PlexKodiConnect: Kodi Plex Integration Done Right

@hstamas :
Correct, no posters for any collection downloaded. Most had the rest of the artwork, but none had posters. I reset my database due to an unrelated issue so maybe this time they will download.

@croneter :
Unfortunately, I just reset my database again so I’m not sure which collections had no art and which ones did. Once it finishes I’ll send you the xmls.

Please also include the Kodi logs from the scanning process

on the subject of sets…

Do you need to reset the database every time a new set is added to get it to show up

thanks

No. If a new set “shows up” on Plex, the PMS items belonging to that set got changed. Hence they should be automatically rescanned by PKC.

Ok thanks…was just curious :). Haven’t had to do it yet

Just a quick one for anyone using Kodi Krypton, I created a modified version of the Estuary skin that will (amongst many other things) show your plex avatar on the home screen.

Check it out here: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=280154

@croneter - please update the Kodi db version to 105 in the latest code (utils.py), 104 is pretty much outdated now.

Anyone notice that actor thumbnails seem to be messed up? I’m talking the regular default view, not within the extended info script. I have no idea when or how it happened as I’ve been doing a lot of experimenting lately with clean installs I between but no I’m consistently getting a single actor image (the same actor go matter what movie). It’s definately PKC as my Kodi install that is set up with regular sources doesn’t display this. I’ll try and get a screenshot and log submitted later.

Nice skin! Next PKC version will have an updated Kodi DB version of 105 - so everyone with an “old” Kodi 17 Krypton will have to update their Krypton.

Now that sounds weird. All PKC does is pass Kodi the artist names, and names only. The actor image scraping and everything else is done by Kodi

Edit: to be more precise, PKC passes the artist’s actor image URL to Kodi, if there is one

Thanks…actually it is now version 106! So please include that in the next version. Cheers

@croneter is there any way that you know of to choose different art for the sections that are not controlled by PMS? Like movie collections or clear art? I know Kodi itself is downloading that per your setting in PKC.

Lets use Star Wars as an example. FanArt.tv has like 10 different posters to choose from for the collection image. Is there any way to change up that poster in Kodi?

I wondered the same thing @hstamas… would be kinda cool to be able to pick from fanart.TV the set poster/fanart art we preferred over others. I thought it may be slightly far fetched to request this, but seeing as you have, I shall show my support for it, should there be a possibility to accommodate it.

thanks again, for your continued great work

I’ll answer this as I implemented it, No there is no possibility for this to happen…can you imagine what it would be like to sit through 1000 movies being synced and need to be there to choose the artwork. Again this is something Plex should offer (and indeed Emby already does), but as a workaround I would suggest using Artwork Downloader for the artwork you would like to change.

Would it be possible to override the “choose art” option in the context menu or even add a new option completely so that you could choose art for them individually? I guess someone could easily just download the posters they want from the website and set them themselves already.

Time for an update

##Changelog##
version 1.2.5

  • Plex Photos! Choose “Refresh Plex playlists/nodes” to use the new feature.
  • Compatibility with latest Kodi Krypton (which is still under heavy development and in an alpha state). If PKC stops working for you, update your Kodi Krypton to the latest version.
  • Fixes to getExtraFanart. If not using the PKC repository, you will have to manually update plugin.video.plexkodiconnect.movies and plugin.video.plexkodiconnect.tvshows to profit from these changes.
  • Use language codes (‘spa’), not verbose ‘español’ for audio streams and subtitles. You will have to reset your Kodi DB manually to profit from this change.
  • Fix fanart.tv fallback to English not working.
  • Fix plex.tv Watch Later ignored resume points.
  • Fix double PKC settings strings.

Darn, missed one

##Changelog##
version 1.2.6

  • Fix Watch Later TypeError

Yeah I just don’t get it as these have been all fresh installs of Jarvis and Krypton. Only when I set up The PKC plugin does this happen and then, only recently without any updates that I’m aware of.

I have somewhat of an odd question. I’m new to this plugin - which I must say is truly great - so I need a refresher.

I’ve used another plex client for kodi in the past that did not use syncing at all, in which case it simply would connect to the plex server and enumerate a listing say for movies, without metadata, and that was all.

I normally connect to my plex server via VPN and syncing a large database would take forever. I did however, did the initial sync locally on my LAN which took the better part of the day on a RPi2 and I then tried to connect via VPN to get the deltas - needless to say, I had a bit of problems seeing the new additions to my library.

Question: is there a way to disable syncing and simply pull library lists as such without metadata? Or does this particular plugin solely rely on syncing to work. Thanks.

What does the pms tell you about this movie? In your browser, navigate to this element, then the" three dots", info, then view XML.

PKC syncs the kodi db with the plex db. Hence syncs are mandatory for you to see new items. You could try to deactivate synching of pictures/art: PKC settings · croneter/PlexKodiConnect Wiki · GitHub, deactivate Force artwork caching

I’ve set up my skin (Mimic) with submenus under TV and Movies for recently added, on deck and random. When I go into them, they show the movie/TV show, but the poster is square and doesn’t show any info about the show name or movie title.

Is this a skin issue or a PKC issue?

Here is the actor part of the XML @croneter. LMK if you need the entire thing. Looks like PMS is identifying it correctly but the image links all point to the same thumbnail.

ADDITIONAL: Looked at some of my other movie XML files and they all point to the same URL image so something got hosed on my PMS. Any suggestions?

That sure wasn’t PKC :-D. As you correctly concluded, the PMS has all actors’ images pointing to the same URL (which PKC will then pick up). Try a PMS refresh, https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200289306-Updating-vs-Refreshing-a-Library

Yup doing that as I type this and it seems to be fixing the issue thanks. Will I need to do a complete resync of PKC or will it pick up the changes?
