Plex version

Version 1.14.1.5488

Windows 10 17763.253

similar issue. Plex seems to crash when transcoding. unininstalled, reinstalled plex. reset TCP/IP stack, etc. Still crashes. Server icon disappears, Plex Media Server.exe pid disappears. nothing has changed on my setup. Been running plex 2+ years.

any ideas?

Ideas - no help
DEBUG log files , captured after it fails - help

Can you recreate the failure please ?
Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs
Attach the ZIP file

(We almost always need the ZIP file. It lets us see what PMS is/was doing)

Realised that logs were disabled, Have enabled them now, and will re-create the crash
Anyway, this is what I can get from “messages”:

Problem is, the logs containes identifiable information on various information, like my IP, Lognname, tokens, media etc, despite that the box was un-checked, apart from that, i cannot find anything in the logs that hints about a crash.
However there is a folder called crash-reports

What is the kernel level on that server, I didn’t think the quick sync for that cpu was added till around 4.15 maybe later.

Any concerns with private information are gladly addressed by using PM .

  1. Please include a link to the thread
  2. Attach the ZIP to the thread.
  3. Replies and main dialog will be in-thread (only sanitized data will be shown)

How do I add the ZIP-file?

The ZIP file may be added to any post by Drag+Drop and allowing to upload (A URL will be shown when upload is complete)

Alternatively, there is an Upload button at the top of the window where we type our replies.

Ok, here we go
Plex Media Server Logs_2019-01-20_18-13-39.zip (748.5 KB)

Updated the kernel to
Linux 4.20.3-1.el7.elrepo.x86_64 on x86_64
Will se tomorrow what is happening.

Thank you for the logs. Something is taking it down so hard the transcoder doesn’t actually start

It probes for the hardare and then processing dies hard

Jan 20, 2019 18:06:09.225 [0x7f092affd700] DEBUG - Codecs: testing h264_vaapi (encoder)
Jan 20, 2019 18:06:09.225 [0x7f092affd700] DEBUG - Codecs: hardware transcoding: testing API vaapi

With kernel “Linux 4.20.3-1.el7.elrepo.x86_64 on x86_64” it still chrashes.
Disabled HW Transcoding, and Plex is not crashing.
Obviously it has something to do with HW-transcoding.

Any news on to solve this?

It’s the new -9xxx CPU and the new kernel.
Nobody has it to find out what’s happening.
At present, we can’t reproduce it

The best determination we can make is the kernel driver (inside the kernel) has an issue.

So, how can I be at help, to solve this?

@ChuckPa I would like to echo TomasL’s last question, i now also have a 9xxx cpu and i am unable to use hardware acceleration due to this exact problem.

What do we need to do?

We / somebody needs to verify that libva has been updated by Intel to support it concurrently with the kernel supporting the -9xxx processor’s i915. The combination i965/i915 must match up in order for HW acceleration to be detected and operate correctly.

If I had that hardware, I could go look. lspci will allow you to look and see if your kernel has support for it.

Ubuntu 16.04 kernal 4.15.0
