PlexPhotos App For IOS - Let's Solve Some Issues

A lot of us have complained that this app was not ready to be released. The initial release was so bad that I started to search for other options. I have also started to use another app to at least look at my personal photos/videos, but keep hoping that more work can be done to solve issues.

I can no longer show my photos to others as the app seems to get caught up in itself and then shuts down or places you back at the beginning of app.

So, I am thinking maybe we should see if we can get small issues explained to the developers in hopes that they will find it in their hearts to help us by fixing them.

So, I am going to start with a few things that I think should be easy to fix.

On my Mac Studio, when I run the Plex Media Player (version 15.5 1.109.0.329-ea562b95) I get this for one of my pictures…

However, if I try to view this same photo on my iPhone 15 Pro Max iOS Version 18.5, I get this…

I believe that this was just missed when the developers decided the app was ready, but as you can see, it places the image file name at the top and truncates the image. While one would think, ‘So What?’, there are images that I would like the WHOLE image.

I know that when you touch the screen it brings up additional photos at the bottom…

Now, you would say, well that is a Vertical image, one would want to view it vertical, and I would agree in this case…

But, 75-85% of my photos/videos are horizontal and the loss is still there.

So, here fix this one thing. When you touch the screen clear everything except the image. You can still touch the screen and bring back the images at the bottom and the image file name at the top and you can still use the < at the top.

The Photos app is TERRIBLE.

  • I have tons of separate photo libraries - one per year. Changing library sucks. Scroll does not work. Seleting one library opens a different one. Serious bugs.
  • Where is search? Because of my huge photo library search is a must! And it should work accross all libraries - not only inside one!
  • Timeline sucks - does not load, or loads incorrect order, does not have quick-browse controls to skip months… awful

I am only mentioning the biggest issues here.

I totally agree with you. All I can say about it, is that I can no longer share anything that I have accumulated over the years with people on the go. I can’t find anything quickly, and it takes way too long to do anything with the IOS version.

My only way of doing this is to travel now with my MacBook Air, Bluetooth wireless to my iPhone and then use the Plex Media Player on it to show friends and relatives.

I have put together over ½ MILLION photos and videos onto my Plex Media Server. While they are for the most part centered around my wife and I, I have included family photos from both sides going back to the 1920’s including veteran pictures of WWII. All of this placed and ready to share.

They have destroyed my sharing capabilities through the IOS apps and I no longer use them on my iPhone

Remove the titles from the photos or at least have the option to hide them or make the image not be hidden by the title

Here is another thing. I have noticed that the images do NOT come into focus for a moment. This NEVER happened on the old app that was the PREFECT app. I can’t even share pictures any longer with people.

Your Plex photo is too slow, is NOT adjustable enough to allow for increase size of folder icons and covers up to much info at the top of images with text added.

I can’t select what to pin or what NOT to pin.

And have VERY LITTLE settings to help me like the old app did.

This app along with the video one and music just plain SUCK.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go back to what we had before. IT WORKED!!! These DO NOT!!!

I am using another synology app to look at images now, because I can actually see the whole image. It is not as good as the old app, but on the iPhone, at least it works for now.

I am back again, imploring you to FIX THIS APP. I am embarrassed to even TRY to show any of my photos. NOTHING WORKS. I Can NOT get any resemblance of a library where I can see enough of the underlying image, much less display anything properly. If I try to take an image that is horizontal and turn the device to display all of the image larger, it BLANKS out the screen and returns to the original vertical display of the horizontal image. If I touch the image while the device is turned horizontal, it will momentarily turn the the image correctly, but then returns to the vertical display.

I was so UNABLE to show anything today, that I just apologized to the small group and put the phone away.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE FIX THIS. I Want the old app back. I WANT THE OLD APP BACK.

WHAT EVER YOU DO, DO NOT MAKE A MESS UP THE APP THAT RUNS ON EITHER THE PC OR MAC. CURRENTLY IT IS THE ONLY WAY FOR ME TO SHOW OTHERS.

This is like NOBODY at Plex cares. I have place request and comments in all over the place and I am not trying to be disrespectful, but you would think that all of the things I and others have mentioned would be easily replicated by Plex’s Development crew and at least admitted that these APPS ARE NOT WORKING anywhere close to what the older versions did.

Now I have to use 4 apps instead of one and each of these apps have serious problems where we are at a point that we wonder why they did this.

I am serious. I enjoyed presenting images and videos to dozen of people at a time, when we had the one Plex player app that allowed us to find subjects both in images and the videos and provide listeners and viewers quick and exposure to a wide range of ACCESSIBLE images/videos.

This NEW Plex Photo app is TERRIBLE. I just don’t know what do except travel up and down streets carrying my MacBook so that I can show all from the ONE workable app.

I NEED THIS FIXED. COME ON GIVE US A BREAK. GIVE US BACK THE OLD VERSION FOR IOS
