They have several times stated this is not under their current scope (current: For the past five years). This request is from 2013 but in reality it goes as far back as the XBMC days (I remember a thread in the XBMC forums from 2003 or thereabouts).

I may have missed it, but can you point us to any of the several times Plex stated it’s not under their current scope?

Yes please do I have looked and not found this topic mentioned.

Look harder.

I won’t search the topics for you, find the tweets for you or show you private messages since that wouldn’t change anything: You wouldn’t change anything in this request and I don’t want you to, either.

My original message (this time, since I’ve been commenting on this thread from the beginning) only stated how sad it is that Plex isn’t interested (or at least has historically have said they aren’t), not for you to do anything different about it. You’re directing your passive-aggressiveness to the wrong target.

I don’t want this feature request to be removed (although I’d remove the bit about XBMC, which is misleading and unnecessary) and I’ll keep pushing for it as I’ve been doing for years before this poll was started (and still do).

No need to turn a simple inquiry into some passive-aggressive attack. You made a seemingly definitive claim that piqued the interest of a couple people (including the OP). It’s not unheard of or unreasonable ask that you point us in the direction of evidence to support said claim. If I stated, “Plex is announcing comic book support tomorrow!!!” I think it would be fair for someone to ask where I came upon such information (and yeah, if the information is plastered all over the internet, you’d have the right to be a smartass if you choose to respond).

In any case, we can all agree that we want Plex to support things we can read–I’ll drink to that. And, I think anyone reading this thread (save for that one person that appears to detest the notion of “streaming” comic books) would agree that it’s sad Plex isn’t as interested as we’d like them to be (or, if they are, it’s likely G14 Classified).

Sorry, i didn’t read the whole thread ?
But do you know ubooquity : http://vaemendis.net/ubooquity/
I want a Plex Comic reader so bad too, but since there is none availiable, i use ubooquity.
The app is not really sexy, a little ram heavy and not 100% perfect, but it does the job.
And since it was mentioned earlier, it can stream comics in zip rar and even pdf, picture per picture.
“Instead of downloading the whole comic file, you can read it directly in your browser. No more waiting for the download to complete before starting to read.”

There is an API, so i guess it should be doable to make a plex channel who connect to a Ubooquity server ?

This would be awesome! Add comics, books and even make a recipe section to share recipes!

I still don’t see why Plex hasn’t incorporated this yet. This would
definitely be a huge plus for Plex users.
Not only for books and comics, but like TechHouse said, it would also be
great to share recipe with friends and family. For students to share notes
from their lessons and have them available all the time whenever and where
ever they need them

I vote for this feature, would be the last piece of my digital collection that i want to have access to when on the go. +1000

Missing content from an otherwise perfect solution for my media, they’ve really been beefing up the music section (must be a bunch of audiophiles working at plex). I would love to get my comics and other books via plex. I too use ubooquity but it doesn’t have the device support that plex does and to have one app to handle all my media would be awesome! Please oh please plex masters make it happen!

This would be totally amazing!

I just saw this update to the top post:

Update: Was in informed that plex is intagrating xbmc. If this is true they will already have full zip/rar/cbz/cbr suport. This makes epub and pdf the only files left to suport. I would still like to see a books section with or without epub and pdf to view my comics.

Is this already done? Is it already available?

YES, please!
I want support for EBUP and PDF!

Hi
I just came to this forum to actually ask for that feature on the forum, but I noticed that already it had been requested, which is good and bad.
Good is that already more than 500 people like this idea, bad is it had not happened yet.

We have now Movies, TV Series, Music, Photos libraries, nicely presented and organized with all metadata we would like to have.

So what would be the next big library step for Plex software?
In my opinion having access to nicely organized library of books and comics would be next step.

Except constant improvements to streaming, movies and content we already have we would like to have something new.

On my computer I cannot find anything else I would likely to have organized than actually books, comics,
That is the only last pieces of data I would like to have.

I would like to have probably calendar as well, integrated with libraries, showing when Movie, TV content would be shown, or just show when did I watch my content, or just simply to have personal journal.
But there is already google/microsoft/apple doing it, so I cannot find anything else.

Please, Plex Makers, consider Comics and Ebook support as the last main content support we would really like to have.

To find ebook content you could access Goodreads, amazon books, and other metadata libraries to download data from and show it in correct order, as read, with reading list, and book library with rating, categories etc. Calibre tool is perfect free database for ebook reading and management, and because it is free I believe you could integrate its features quite easily and move it to Java.

I actually do not know what would be the best metadata libraries for comics, but I believe you can find it.

As many others said, Million time yes for books and comics support.

Bring it on!

this feature is needed to make Plex whole!

Why have we not even had a word said to us about this yet? A not going to happen would be nice so we know where we stand.

I completely agree

I have a channel for comic archives at https://github.com/coryo/ComicReader.bundle

Interesting. I’ll give it a try. Thanks!

@coryo123: is it possible the plugins has issues when you to much comics in one directory?
