PLEXREADER: Comics, Books, PDFs

@hotleadsingerguy: why not use comicrack instead? That way you can
wirelessly sync

I use comic rack now and it works nicely however it doesn’t not give me what plex would give me that is, syncing position so I can open and continue reading on any device (phone, tablet, web, etc) as well as reading anywhere I have an Internet connection. With comic rack I can only sync if I am at home.

Not to mention, that comic rack is only for Windows.

Ah I did not know that. Yes that is a big one.

Also I know there are other applications that can supply comics over the web for you but the convenience of having everything in one place is a huge thing. At least to me.

I would love this option. I use different apps with middling success now. it would be nice for plex to have all my media.

What I would like to find in finality is a totally centralized library for ALL my medias (sorry for bad english), including Ebooks/podcasts radio/Comics/etc.

This could ALL be solved with a way to integrate Calibre into PLEX. Maybe a Calibre channel? I think there is a general disconnect in the world between Books and other media. Audiobooks are the step-child of both groups, not quite music, but not quite eBooks either.
I’m not an iTunes fan, but how does the inclusion of the iTunes server handle its incorporation of audiobooks?

While channels are nice they rely on community support and can lag behind plex as new server versions are published. I would love this, it really is the last piece of media that I do not have one plex. While I have used other things, they do not have the device support or capabilities of plex. This also seems to be a consistently high liked request so hopefully the the developers have something in the works.

I agree that media should include the written word and pictures, as well. To have Plex serve documents (like ebooks, pdfs, etc) as well would be awesome.

On the other hand, I don’t want Plex to go into the direction of iTunes, where one program tries to do everything. But then there are not many alternatives for an ebook client/server. There’s calibre, but that one is web based, not very sexy and has no native app to sync to clients.

Another vote for a PlexReader.

There’s nobody in this space now. Comicrack is ok at best and is Windows only. A plex solution to this would be killer.

I would absolutely love such a feature. Another vote for a PlexReader.

  • i would love this

This feature is on the roadmap or not?

Plex does not announce what features they are currently working on. This feature is on the list of highest requested but that doesn’t mean much. Best we can do it press the like button on the first post and hope.

Liking the first post is how they track votes for features.

+1 voting! If it is possible I would refurbish my study room to a theater room. Come On!

This would be nice to have.

+1 … would love to organize a comic collection this way.

The UX and UI of Plex Book library would beat Calibre hands down because of its simplicity to use and run.

Seriously, look at this! Yummy !

If you don’t believe me, check on their official website.

I’ve seen a lot of people saying that Calibre is amazing etc… Well, it’s not. It’s a platform for nerds which have certain standards but yet is complicated to run on a NAS like Synology, since it is not an official package there. As it seems it will never happen on Synology side, I would really like to see the feature in Plex.

What we’re talking here is a streaming solution to read book, not to download them locally on the device. Because PlexPass allow to sync media, of course, it would also be possible to sync/download a media on the device.

This would be a great addition to Plex.

The ability to add a Book Library that could handle comics and PDFs would be a great addition.
