As a user since the xbmc days, i’m amazed that this is the one feature I’ve never seen even remotely addressed by Plex. I’m glad I can watch Tales from the Crypt on Plex, but I want to READ Tales from the Crypt on Plex.
I would love to see ebooks as part of my library. Please please add this feature.
Please Plex! Please add ebooks functionality to your awesome software. It is the last missing piece to cover all media.
Would love to see epub support. PDF Support secondarily.

Esspecialy since the Image support is so bad.
As of right now i have all og my ecomics stored as jpg in a photo librarie, but since theres no “Local Media Assests”-Agend for Images and plex keeps deleting the manualy set Posters and Background after every update this would be a great adition to PMS. Also the support for larger files is very bad as well. 160MB .tif, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.
Once we get e-book / comic support then they can finally add Collections so we can put, Art, Books, Movies, TV, Music all together. Keeping my fingers cross
+1 for this - and the current system makes little sense with amazon echo… last night;

I have heard that you can set audio books up as a video, which is probably a good workaround but isn’t (for me) the fix.
You can set Audiobooks up as a video file but I prefer merging the mp3s
into one file and doing it that way.
There is an audiobook feature request that I highly recommend placing your
vote on the first message
I agree this would be great to be able to have convenient access to my books and especially my comics.

Plex does media management far better than anyone else. Please take over ebooks and comics as well!

uh yea. my lord, we need an e-reader about as much as we do another underpowered client (or the amazing underpowered client/server combo), plex cloud (seriously who thought AWS was a good idea) or my personal favorite- pms on a router.

Personally, I still don’t quite get the appeal of turning Plex into a do-it-all with the associated bloat. There are plenty of good comic book reader apps, what makes you think Plex would do it better? Why should it be in the same place as movies and tv shows? Same question for books and PDFs… I just don’t see Plex being the optimal app for that, when there are other, specialized apps that do it perfectly fine already. So I’m withdrawing my +1 in the first post, actually. Sorry.

I see a lot of people dismissing the idea because there are already other comic readers out there. So i feel i should point out a lot of us want Comics in Plex for it’s STREAMING abilities. Most available comic readers require the comics to be stored locally, or simply provide the ability to download the whole thing. This is just not practical. Most comics are 50MB+ per issue, most of my manga is 200MB+ per volume (with many single volumes passing 500MB). To be able to read on the go easily you need the ability to “stream” the comic (download page by page, with a couple pages of buffer) instead waiting for the whole archive to download. Right now the only solution available (for windows users) is Ubooquity, which does this, albeit slowly and poorly. It would be wonderful if Plex could offer a better solution for comic streaming.

Yeah, the closest solution in town at the moment is Google Play Books. They limit you to 1000 files, but you can upload and resume from where you leave off on other devices. They sync the whole thing to your device when you try to look at it though, and it doesn’t do this in an elegant way. Plus like other google products (looking at you music) they started shunning the ease of access to your “personal library” in favor of their product offerings in full Amazon-esque style. What used to be a single tap is now buried just like your individual music library in Google Music. Plex brought in music and in my opinion did a bang up job at capturing 95% of the desired functionality. If they could add a little polish that would totally replace my Google Music usage altogether, but I’m still torn between the two. Hope if they go for books they get a 100% out of the gate, there isn’t really that much to it
I have recently dabbled into trying to get this kind of thing running myself. I even paid a developer to get an MVP up and running and it’s rough but works, without a real good library sharing aspect.
The major thing that Plex brings to the table is library sharing via a centralized user system.
You can find self hosted options out there for viewing of your own files quite easily. Some of them work better than others. Some work great but are complicated to get up and running. Some work only on specific platforms. None have a library sharing method that I have found.
I put a +1 on it and if someone from Plex wants to talk more about it I would love to discuss some of the methods I have already worked on.
This would be great, the feedback I get most from the users in my home is that book are missing and they would like to have the same flexibility on with this media.
With the release of Calibre 3.0, this is somewhat possible, as it allows in-browser reading. But Calibre is an unwieldy beast and the content server design leaves a lot to be desired.
It really would be lovely to have Plex be able to intelligently handle audiobooks and ebooks.
