PLEXREADER: Comics, Books, PDFs

nice

Very nice, will make a GREAT companion app to go with my EMBY server that just works.

+1 i really want this

Really really want this, Plex is a media player so why not audiobooks and ebooks

+1 i really want this

I think the Comic Vine scraper would be an excellent base for Plex to build on and I can’t see why it would be hard to implement. Would love something similar for eBooks too.

Audiobooks is already possible with some work, if you google there are guides on how to set it up and scrape etc.

I want also the comics (cb7, cbz, cbr files, etc
) and ebook (epub, PDF) reading on Plex.

(i use Plex on LG WebOS TV)

It is a must!

As Darkwolf1515 mentioned, the most promising right now is Jellyfin as a basic web-based ePub reader has already as of version 10.6.0. PDF and CBZ reading support is upcoming.

Of the AIO content servers, Jellyfin is definitely the one going in the right direction at present. and Plex is the furthest behind as Plex doesn’t even have “bookshelf”/metadata support yet.

As for the others “ebook only” servers only Komga seem to be in active development. A number of others mentioned through this thread have latest versions that date back two years or more.

Hey thanks for remembering me!

He’s completely correct, current Jellyfin has a ePub reader, it’s barebones but can only get better, no notes support, bookmarks (it just remembers the last page you were on before closing it) but it works on mobile, has table of contents and metadata, I think it’s the only real ebook server out there. (Beyond messing with calibre)

And komga is fantastic, works great as a webapp, has opds support (which means any app that supports the protocol can read from it, I use panels on iOS and it’s fantastic) manga works great, and the dev is going to create a new standard of comic/manga metadata, one that doesn’t suck!

I do wish people weren’t so tied to a single app, I get the convenience of it all but expecting an app to become the jack of all trades and refusing to even try a fully featured app that does everything you want because it’s “not plex” is just sad.

I think it’s a bit disingenuous to say that a separate app does everything people want when what people want is to have a centralized hub to access their digital content. Literally the only thing missing from Plex (for me) is ebook support. If Plex implements this then everything I want to remotely access can all be stored on my NAS and accessed from a single source. I’m honestly surprised that after nearly 8 years and 1,800+ votes that this isn’t a priority.

I came here specifically to see if this feature had been requested. It would be simply amazing.

I get the want for a one stop shop, but whats sad is the fact that there is a way to get what you want (an ebook/comics server), but people chose to die on the plex hill, rather than for now, getting what you want and then switching if a plex alternative ever becomes a thing, keyword being if.

But then again, comic support is planned for jellyfin 10.7, (its actually done they’re just finishing the other parts of the update) so that would be exactly what you want, a centralized hub.

Since 2013 with 1.8k votes, omg, what happens to @Plex Feature Suggestions?

The devs print them out on toilet paper, wipe there bums with them, then ignore them after that.

Just heard about Jellyfin on this topic and trying on a new VM for one week : it will probably replace Plex in .
Everything is not shiny but the most important things for me are working good in Jellyfin.

Most of all, they listen their users.
That’s why i am ready to face some bugs sometimes.

AND they support epub (and CBR and PDF under “unstable” version)

The worst of all is that there are already plugins that worked and that it would be easy to adapt to have the functionality. At least leave a door open for a third-party plugin to work

It is a shame. The option that has the most demand and the one that is least heard

I’d be more than happy to use Jellyfin, but I don’t have the first idea how to install it on my Synology, which doesn’t have Docker. So for me, my desperate want for a CBR reader in Plex isn’t because I’m so in love with Plex (discontinuing plug-ins, and the way it wants to push content actually leaves me pretty cold on it) but because I don’t have the technical know-how to do it any other way.
