PLEXREADER: Comics, Books, PDFs

It seems like CBR/CBZ support could be accomplished with much of the same functionality Plex already has for viewing images. Add the ability to access the compressed files like they were folders and add basic image functionality for zooming and scrolling and it’s mostly done.

Oh yes … because the ARCADE is more of a media support than an eReader.

Books are a form of media.

Look at it this way…
You can have audiobooks as part of your Plex music library, so why gatekeep text books?
You can have Photos and images as part of your Plex library, so why gatekeep graphic novels or comics?

The forum says you’re a “Plex Employee”.
Is there any word on the status of your comment? :-3

Nope, that comment is from before I was an employee.

Hi Ridley. Is it possible for you to tell us that this is actively being reviewed, or that it’s completely off the table, or even that you’re not actively reviewing this just so people know that the Plex staff isn’t just completely ignoring them?

Or, if you’re not able to speak to this, could you please direct someone on staff who is able/authorized to address this to this forum to give us SOME form of contact?

An almost 10-year old thread with the second highest number of votes and ZERO communication from staff is upsetting at best. The people deserve to feel like they are heard, and nobody in this thread is feeling heard.

Is plex still utterly ignoring this topic and refusing to acknowledge it exists? Hmm, seems so. Awesome.

The original reason as to why plex would not go into ebooks is because it was only for music and video. Well they introduced a bogus arcade section.

WE WANT THE BOOKS

Really hope something like this will be released soon…

Has anyone tried pinging this to the CEo on Twitter? Clearly, this team is lacking Product Owners/Community service managers. One must assume that a feature request this large wouldn’t result in any comms for as long as it has to be an oversight by the leadership team? Ive also been a long-time Lifetime member and I would gladly pay that fee again for the addition of this feature set.

If you have a Twitter account feel free to reply to those. Maybe they’ll actually give us some kind of response.

Well played.

Nice try, but this is not the PLEX.TV CEO…

I edited my post with the correct contacts (courtesy of @worfeus). That CEO was probably super confused.

Lifetime supporter. Could care less about arcade. The ability to sync up and read/listen to epub3 with media overlays is the only other feature I want with Plex.

You heard it here first, folks! I responded with the following:

I completely understand that. I appreciate your response, but you guys have to understand that an almost 10 year-old thread with the second highest vote count on the forum and ZERO responses from Plex looks bad. We can handle, “Not right now.” But no response at all is insulting.

So I guess (at least for the next few years) we’re not going to have ebook support.

I’m sorry, sometimes we don’t have much to say on these threads other than: sounds interesting, I can understand why people would ask for this, but we don’t have the bandwidth to look into it at this time

While it’s not the answer we want, it is still an answer. Thanks for your response, and we’ll cross our fingers that this gets put on the docket at a later date. We love our books!
