PLEXREADER: Comics, Books, PDFs

It took nearly 10 years for that response. That’s ridiculous.

It is sad that Plex haven’t found bandwidth in all these years just to looked into it.

I would still like for this to happen.
It would really be a great feature.

Agree that Plex should stay focused on what they’re doing already. If he says they don’t have the bandwidth – and you know there’s no real revenue in it for them – then that’s that. Use Calibre and support their development, let Plex do it’s thing and improve on audiobooks and features fr current services.

I think we all really like Plex and just want them to handle all of this, but $5 a month pass isn’t going to make all of our dreams come true.

Why do you people insist on posting here? If you don’t support the idea then stay out of the thread. Feature Suggestions isn’t a place for you to rain on people’s suggestions. It’s a place for someone to say, “Hey, it’d be cool if this could be implemented.” Then it’s up to Plex staff to determine if that suggestion works. There is no reason for your dissenting opinion to be voiced as that is not what Features Suggestions is for.

And to go a step beyond this, Plex Arcade uses FAR more bandwidth than eBooks. They added that gem (that’s sarcasm) with an additional $2.99/month price tag. They could definitely add eBook support using the exact same method.

+1 for reading and books. And for everyone else who’s complaining that Plex should focus on its existing features: yeah, that’s how apps lose appeal and die out over time, but not introducing newer features.

Good thinking.

Anyways, I would love to give you more money for a reader-component, Plex. Plz.

Maybe we will finally see something happen towards this feature now that Jellyfin has released something similar?

+1 Plex Reader for PDF

+1 I’d love that

Plex, listen…I will pay a whole other subscription for this. Way more than plex arcade, catching my drift… I have over 5k ebooks and pdf’s, over 100k comic books in mainly cbz. To have this next my music, movies, tv shows would just be incredible.

I don’t care if you don’t want the feature or think it’s not a great idea. But I want to know if you think it’s good business practice to ignore one of the most requested features for years without even acknowledging that it was mentioned? His answer to the request is literally the first response from anyone at Plex ever on the subject, and that’s been several years.

Sadly I really had hopes this one would come to focus, as it is the most requested from all of our plex users, but instead the arcade is rolling out and i agree with most the comments, it is not worth it to me at all. In the old days plex was very customer driven, now they like most after the start up phase is over, are corporate driven. which you can see by the way they have been marketing their brand. sadly this like the HTPC thread , an app that used to be designed so you could use your current media player and settings for high quality video processing, is now using app based player with poor quality render which defeats the purpose of the “HTPC” all together.

Fingers crossed maybe one day for ebooks, it would make alot of my users happy, so they don’t have to use another app’s just for the ebooks.

Man these developers suck. How can you ignore such a simple request for 7 years.

Plex doesn’t care about any of these requests. Which you can clearly see for yourself. They only do what they want to do and what they can get more money from. e.g. the streaming with advertising stuff.

We will never get this feature, they just don’t care

That’s just not true. Look over the past year at all the personal media stuff we’ve done.

Thank you so much for all the new features that Plex has been diligently working on to release, it’s much appreciated. I understand that this feature isn’t on the agenda for now but I’ll anxiously keep my fingers crossed that it’ll happen later down the line. With companies like Humble Bundle offering a variety of books/comics/manga, it’s hard not to see Plex as the obvious solution!

And thanks again for the updates!

I will not sit here and disrespect the developers as some have above, I am just commenting because this is definitely a feature I would love to see!!! (Yes, I have read that it is currently not an option based on the current support)…

Yes I want Ebooks on Plex, and Yes I will patiently wait for official support by the developers.

Love everything that has been done in the recent years, You guys Rock!

But lets (respectfully) Keep this thread alive.

Happy Streaming All!

Also, until then, Calibre is a viable option folks.

Hopefully we’ll see this one day, but I would guess that jumping into the realm of ebook and pdf readers might be a pretty big leap in terms of new code versus all the rest of the modules that were repurposing existing systems. It is pretty easy to see how video can spin off into music (likely using the same player), and with photos every client is already displaying poster images.

Another issue is the only clients that would likely want the ebook/pdf reader are the handheld devices and the web client. All the TV clients would probably find it a waste.

video games - a feature not a single person ever requested. it didn’t reuse a single bit of code (that ebooks wouldn’t also reuse) and one could argue was a much bigger task. yet they foudn time to do video game streaming instead of ebooks. look i get it, they have a business to run. but there’s a not a single excuse besides money that they aren’t doing an ebook reader. it has nothing to do with how much code they would have to write vs reuse. there’s no money in it so they don’t care.

Would love to see this
