PLEXREADER: Comics, Books, PDFs

Would love some sort of acknowledgement of the demand here from Plex

I dont know about for plex itself.. but I’m working with Claude AI to develop something similar to read from Kavita libraries and allow support if you have access to multiple.
I got the ereader itself working, now working on support for files outside of pdf, and then will be onto audiobooks. then.. maybe some social aspects like a good reads search and link to lazy librarian? reading goals? statistics? the skies the limit right now. well technically ios is.. I dont have 99 a year to put down for my first and currently only app. I have an apk that works though!

By the way.. I will not gatekeep once finished. I made this for my wife for Christmas, but its going to be free use for everyone

Working on the apk and google approval currently.

ALSO in the midst of all this.. realized how Lazy Librarian is terrible as far as UI design and user friendliness and since Readarr doesnt work great in container.. working on my own..

Its on the Playstore!

 working on audiobooks soon!

it is ā€œpull-able?ā€ w docker compose

All these ā€˜use calibre’ talk to be unconvincing. Plex for me is a means of disseminating access to media content stores. Not just movies, or tv. Why did music make sense? Why did photos make sense more than ebooks? Better audiobook support would be great - using the music functionality is not ideal, though better than nothing.

I want to offer my friends a UI-friendly means of accessing all my media, including ebooks. I’ve been using Calibre for most of 20 years, and it AIN’t that. Some people are just weirdly blind to the value of an easy UI for end-users. Like aggressively so, and it feels like gatekeeping against less technical users/friends. I’m plex pass, and would pay an additional flat fee for this functionality.

It would be fantastic if Plex could finally support e‑books—PDF and ePub at minimum.

If others would find this useful, feel free to add your voice.

Thanks!

It would be nice to have our own library for ebooks so that we can view from multiple devices and synced bookmarks so that we can keep our place no matter where we are.

This feature is important. It would make Plex a complete 1 stop shop. I know there are some other programs that handle this, but I would like it for my plex server to do it.

Your version looks really cool. I’ve been working on it some more, and it’ll be available in the app stores starting next month… But in terms of design, we’re going to go our own way to avoid any issues… And we’re focusing on comics, not books.

I use Stump now for ebooks, comics, pdfs (for pdf it was needed to add a dll to work).
It is almost perfect. Better than jellyfin because it only dowloads the pages you read not the whole comics (which has taken several seconds on jellyfin with a cbz with 100MB size).

Hey everyone,

we’re currently in the final polishing stage and getting very close to releasing the final version — so I wanted to share a little sneak peek with you.

Our project takes comic reading to the next level:

  • Automatically detects comics, series, issues, and release years

  • Take your comics everywhere with you and read them on PC, tablets, and mobile phones

  • Automatically recognizes panels for a smooth and modern reading experience

  • Translates comics into 27 languages

  • Can even read them aloud for you

Our goal is to make comics as modern, comfortable, and accessible as possible — wherever you are.

And yes: an Apple TV version is also planned, so you’ll be able to enjoy comics directly on your TV.

I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, and ideas. What do you think?

@derlordhelmchen it this legit ?
1+ if it is a ebook and audio book reader, Would love it even more if it did comic books aswell

Also where is the vote button for this ?

Yeah, I’m just putting the finishing touches on it now. But it’s specifically for comics (for now). I think I’ll need another two weeks at most, then I’ll be done. I’m just fixing the bugs. Everything else is finished. It’s taken a few years now. The first version that worked was a nightmare when it came to recognizing comics and wasn’t suitable for the general public. The current one is perfect.

And it translates every comic into 27 languages with voice narration. The animations look amazing, too. I’ll post a video soon to show you what it looks like.

Adding support for these formats would allow users to have one place where they can literally do everything: read books, manga, or comics, watch series and movies, and even listen to music — truly the ultimate all-in-one media platform.
