PM4K is in such a great place, thanks so much for the ongoing work panni.
Minor feature suggestion: If “Back” button is pressed when “Skip Credits” or “Skip Intro” buttons are on screen, can we exit the video playback rather than dismiss the marker button?
The is most commonly an issue for me when I hit the end of a show/movie - the credits start and the Skip Credits button appears, and I want to exit playback. Instinctively I hit the “Back” button, but the playback doesn’t end, I assume because the Marker button is considered Overlay UI and Back is also used to dismiss UI overlays, but in this specific case it seems more appropriate to treat the Back button the same as when no UI is on screen. You have to hit Back again to then exit playback.
If lots of people use Back to dismiss those buttons then I’m happy to be overrulled and leave it as is…
I can maybe add an AddonSetting for that case. I think it doesn’t make sense by default, as the marker skip button receives focus and can be immediately executed by hitting OK. The opposite would be the dismissal on Back. Stopping the video at that point would bring pitchforks from the other (at least) half of people who don’t expect that to happen.
One thing I’ve noticed on this new build is that when you pause the video long enough for a screen saver to activate the playback GUI stays on over the screensaver.
@panni Noticed a weird bug last night with 2 part movies. Recently ripped my 4K disk of Lord of the Rings extended editions which require 2 separate MKV files.
It plays both fine, however when the second part of the movie starts, if you try fast forwarding or rewinding it will jump to the end credits or the last 16 mins of the movie every time. On the first part of the movie this doesn’t happen though and rewinding or fast forwarding works as expected.
If you or anyone else have 2 part movies like this (all Lord of the rings Extended or Zack Snyder Justice League etc) could you test and see if this happens for you?
Multi part handling is somewhat broken, yeah. Not sure when I’ll get around to checking it again, as they’re really rare nowadays and I’ve got bigger fish to fry.
My advice would be to mkvmerge them into one file for now.
Yeah I think I only have like 5 movies on 4K that require 2 parts. I’ll check mkvtoolnix again but as I remember it lowered the bitrate somewhat after merging which is why I kept the original 2 part files.
I’ll update to the newer version and see if merging keeps the bitrate intact. Thanks!
Ok good to know, as I don’t want to alter any audio or video streams when merging. Last I tried on Mac it lowered the bitrate a small amount.
Once it’s out of makeMKV I usually leave them alone but yeah I see they are a pain. I’ll have to update to the newest mkvtoolnix and merge them. I’m on Mac so hopefully the bugs from the old version I was using are gone.
No when the Snyder Cut 4K was released a few years back, it was definitely a bug (at least for me and a few others) when I merged it back then. Other users reported the same across other forums (drop in bitrate and file size).
I just merged it again to test and on 89.0 the file size and bit rate are correct this time. Same way I did before. The dev doesn’t develop for Mac so whichever version I was using previously was doing something weird with the streams. MediaInfo app showed like 5-10 bitrate drop before and the overall file size didn’t add up to the merged streams total.
At least its working properly for me now though so all good!
That’s potentially normal behavior. A slight drop in filesize when remerging with mkvtoolnix is common, if the previous mkv builder was a different (or older) one. The same might be true for bitrate, especially with VBR, as that’s never one accurate number (especially not in Plex).
I don’t know about any bugs on Mac, but I can almost guarantee mkvtoolnix doesn’t change the streams (unless you cut them using offsets or use any of the altering functions such as changing the framerate), at least not for a couple of years.
When I pause the GUI no longer hides like it used to. I checked every setting I could think of that might affect this, and everything seemed normal. Here is a photo of my TV after a 3 min screen saver delay.
Maybe I’m seeing things, but you don’t seem to be using Plextuary. In that case the overlay stays active as long as the Kodi player is visible, which hides/masks it in case of a different skin.
I’m guessing when the Screensaver activates, the kodi player GUI still counts as active, so PM4K keeps its overlay alive. I might be able to change that, not sure, I’ll look into it.
In any case, please make sure you’re using Plextuary.
Edit: also, which Screensaver plugin are you using?
