I’ve been reading all the latest posts in this forum and was wondering something. I’ve been using Plex for a long time with a PMS on a Linux box and PMC on a mini mac.
I have a INTEL ATOM ION (Zotac) computer that is running XBMCFreak without any problems (1080P works fine) and was trying to get my Plex movies in it running Plexbmc (latest beta 3 from this summer) and it’s working but the interface (even with modified skins) is far from being as nice as a true Plex Client interface.
I’m no linux expert but with all the latest tests floating around in this forum, my question is this:
Is it possible to run the latest Plex Media Center will all the functionnalities (including VDPAU, myPlex, AC3-DTS, etc) to run on an Intel computer on any Linux distribution? If yes, is possible, like a XBMCfreak or XBMC Live iso, to install easily and boot directly into PMC?
Thank you for the feedback and of course if that’s possible, can somebody point me where can I can found this ISO or how to do it?
I'm not sure but as far as I know there is no Playback Client for Linux. I think you can get a plugin for xbmc called plexmbc http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Add-on:PleXBMC .
You can also use wine 1.3 to run the windows port but its extremely slow, especially in your situation.
I actually have my server on a windows box. I stream to roku boxes around the house. My living room pc runs linux with XBMC. I have my windows box share the folder for my movies and I use smb connection to my linux xbmc. It works flawlessly for me this way.
Edit: I just realized your full question. I'm tired lol. I would say no there is not any solution other than using wine to run the windows port.
