Please excuse me if this is covered in another thread that I did not see.
I’m like a lot of people in wanting to see a Linux build of Plex Media Center. I’ve got a few old machines that I want to use around my house as players (mostly music, but some video here and there) and I think Plex may be the way to do that. But I want to run Linux on them for various reasons.
While I’m waiting does anyone have any recommendations on a decent media player for Linux that may be able to tie (in some way) to the Linux Plex Media Server?
Realize this may be a crazy sounding question, but I figured I’d risk ridicule and ask as I’d prefer not to set all of my media up in another format if Plex is going to be my (hopefully) long term solution. I’ve heard of things like XBMC being able to be used in some way with Plex, but I’m not sure of the details here.
Thanks for any tips anyone may have.
As usual after posting this I finally found the information I was looking for and really should have found before posting.
Seems that the PleXBMC plug in works fairly well and I’ve been able to get that working in Ubuntu fairly well in a short time.
Hopefully that will do what I want until a full Plex Media Center application can be done.
Thanks! I ran into a similar issue, not knowing there was a difference between the server and the player and thinking I’d be able to use my Ubuntu machine as a media center with Plex. Turns out you can’t, at least without 3rd party apps.
If anyone has other suggestions for players that run on Linux I’d appreciate your thoughts.
