Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171
Player Version#: 4.24.1
I have my server under set to limit the stream to 8mb. When I access using Plex Media Player, it starts transcoding, and in the server console I see an error about “Streaming Resource: Bandwidth exceeded: 19251 kbps > 8000 kbps”. If I remove the limit of 8mb, I get the full direct player experience. In the PMP, it says my plex server is “nearby” as I am connected via the LAN. Why is PMP being limited by the internet streaming bandwidth limitation when I am local?
It shows as remote. If I put my windows pc on the same subnet it shows local. How does plex determine if it i local? Is it as simple as the same subnet or does it does some udp/mdns stuff to determine if it can find a local plex server?
if PMP is on the same computer as the server, would it use 127.0.0.1 as the IP? I know that when I use PlexAmp on the same machine that the server resides, the connection is always classifies as “Remote”
Maybe that address can be added into the settings in “Network” on the server to be considered local somehow?
127.0.0.1 is reserved as any device’s own address (loopback). I did find under Settings->Network->LAN Networks. I just added the entire 192.168.0.0/16 block, which covers all the addresses on my network.
