PMS 1.16.1 is last stable release on Synology DS214play

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.18.5.2309-f5213a238-x86.spk
Last stable Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.16.1.1291-158e5b199-x86.spk
Player Version#: -

Hi,
I own a Synology ds214play. Latest DSM is running on it. When running any version of Plex, newer than 1.16.1. the PMS runns for a frew hours before it crashes sometime within 24h wihtout any interaction and I have to start it again manually on the Diskstation. I found that the version posted above is one of the last ones that run stable without crashing.

Any Idea what might have changed since then? The log doesn’t help much i’m afraid. This is everything from update to crash:

The info you show comes from the Synology log. It doesn’t help because program logs and runtime logs are kept in different places. I don’t burden the Syno log space (too small).

The logs needed are the Plex logs which are in the Plex share.

The easiest way to obtain them after it stops on you:

  1. WIth it restarted
  2. Settings - Server - Troubleshooting (left pane) - Download Logs.
  3. Attach the ZIP file it gives you here and I’ll look at it.

As expected, it crashed again last night.

I’ve restarted the PMS this morning at 09:02 to download the logs through the UI… those entries can be ignored.

Thank you for your help.

@MyFriendJack

Would you mind uploading here ? I don’t particularly care to be tracked by yet another site.

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-01-31_09-03-54.zip (217.6 KB)

@ChuckPa sorry - didn’t see that option before :open_mouth:

We are the same problem. Without operation, without playback, crash/freeize in 24hours.

Jack,
Sorry I didn’t see this until just now.

Is your server on Wifi?
Also, is there any particular reason you have multiple IPv6 addresses assigned to eth0 ?

The networking up & down is driving it nuts. The datalink (either SSID WiFi or wire) is failing / lose / something.

While you have your fingers in it, if you don’t need IPv6, turn it off. It will only complicate things ( Control Panel - Network - eth0 )

I’m using a wired connecton (no wifi supported in DS214play) but am also running a vpn conneciton. That might cause multiple IPv6 adresses?

I’ve disabled IPv6 now and PMS did not crash last night. I’ll keep an eye on it.

I’ve checked my routers logs and it seems the crash occurs every time my internet provider disconnects me to assign a new ip address.

My Router is only accessible through local LAN. Will it be a problem if connected directly to the internet without IPv6 in the future?

Also, it would be interesting to see what the devs have changed since 1.16.1 related to networking that is now causing it to crash.

Plex only needs IPv4. It’s actually much better without it.

They started adding IPv6 support in the HTTP server but it’s not complete.

I thought the issue was solved. Unfortunately, Plex now crashed again. I turned logs back on and am now waiting on the next crash. I’ll post them here as soon as that happened… crashes seem to have become much more rare now.

Thanks!

It hasn’t crashed for 10 days now. So maybe it was just bad luck. @ChuckPa thanks for taking a look at my logs. Disabling IPv6 seems to have solved the issues.
