The problem could be related with the junky buggy new video drivet on NAS’s with an Apollo Lake processor. (look here : https://forums.plex.tv/t/hardware-transcoding-broken-when-burning-subtitles-apollolake-based-synology-nases/482428/32 ).
in my case (Synology DS918+) the workaround was ;

Stop the Plex media server on the syno.

SSH into your NAS and then remove the new Intel Media Driver (iHD)
sudo rm “/volume1/@appstore/Plex Media Server/lib/dri/iHD_drv_video.so”`
- start Plex server
it worked and solved the problem on my Synology DS 918+ and the latest plex.
but i hope this ■■■■■■ junk of bad driver will be removed on the next release !
