PMS after version 1.10.1.4602 does play well with Apple TV 4K and HEVC files.

Hi,

I’m running Plex on Apple TV 4K in my living room, and PMS on a Mac Mini elsewhere in the house. Every version after 1.10.1.4602 has given me the following problems on HEVC files on Apple TV:

  • HEVC files with subtitles embedded are out of sync.
  • Surround sound gives out the center channel output to the right speaker.

The HEVC files in question are only 1080p files, not large 4K files. x264 files seem to be unaffected, as well as the aforementioned HEVC files with Plex on iOS devices and on Macs as far as I can tell. Tried the newesst Plex Pass version, which still has the same problems. I think the 2 problems I have mentioned have already been reported elsewhere, but perhaps not exactly in the same setting.

Are those problems acknowledged and waiting to be fixed?

I’ve not seen anything with the first issue, but the second one is known, and I’m investigating and working with the developers on this.

Can you provide any logs and samples?

I have an exactly same issue ( HEVC files with subtitles embedded are out of sync. ) with Linux server.

Windows, MacOS server works fine.

Transcoding is fine. The problem is Direct Play.

Interesting, I noticed this with one film… but haven’t viewed that many with subtitles embedded… I’ll try to corroborate and get logs/samples.

I’m sorry for giving you the wrong information. OSX was transcoding.
After the change to direct play, the problem occurs.

Here is a sample file.
